I stood there speechless, with a million things running through my head. I stepped inside and took in everything. There was an old wooden table in the middle of the room covered in papers and dust. To left side of the room the entire wall was cover with books spanning from one end of the wall to the other, and from the ceiling all the way to the floor. On the right side of the room there was nothing...
Only a white circle on the floor surrounded by burnt candles, all ranging from different sizes.
What were they dong in here?
Walking over to the table, the first thing I see is a photo of my grandparent and me. We look so happy in this photo, and I still remember the day it was taken. It was about 3 years ago at the park right across from the antique shop, we went there to celebrate my birthday. We had our own little picnic just the three of us, laughing together and just enjoying the sunny day while I listened to some stories they told me.
(FLASHBACK)
"please granddad tell me a story" I asked him laying on my side looking at him, he smiles down at me.
"Sure pumpkin" he says while sitting up straight.
"okay so there was this one time when we went to Egypt and we came across a Goddess by the name of Bastet. She was the Goddess of Pleasure, and was seen as a woman with a cat's head or just a cat. We arrived there not knowing where we were, after a few hours we came across her. She was very kind and friendly to us and offered us a place to sleep and dinner. We thanked her by helping her find 7 of her cat's that got injured." he spoke like he was reliving the moment and that made me smile.
"We helped her to find the 7 cat's and she rewarded us with a statue of an Egyptian cat made out of gold. Which is one of the most irreplaceable item you can find it in the store." my grandmother finished the story.
"when was this? how did you get there?" I ask them.
"That pumpkin is a story for another day, but you will soon find out." my grandfather assured me.
(Present time)
I smiled after thinking back to that day, I remember seeing that statue on one of the shelves in the store but it has never been for sale. Scanning through all the papers on the table I find a letter but I can hardly make out what it says all I can make out is "yours faithfully Elijah Reed".
Who was Elijah Reed? The handwriting looks very familiar like I have seen it somewhere before, but where?
Walking over to the bookshelf I look over all the book titles, some of them are in other languages and some don't even have titles. So many different kind of books, different sizes, different covers, and I can't wait to read them.
After admiring the books I moved over to the other side of the room. Standing in front of the circle I try and figure out what it is for. I grab the book of the table that has the title "traveling" on the cover and go stand inside the circle, opening the book I start to flip through the pages but it all seem to be written in Latin.
The pictures directed me somehow. All I gathered was that you think of a place you would like to go, say some odd words in Latin and boom!
I thought of a place and tried to say the words out loud " neque....obtunsis per tempus". All of a sudden the candles lit up and I feel this swirl of wind surround me, it started to become so strong I felt like I was going to loose my balance. Closing my eyes shut, nerves overcome me and after a few seconds I feel a strong hand on my arm pulling me and before I know it I am outside the circle and staring at a tall handsome man.
" What do you think you are doing? you will get yourself killed!" he demands.
" I.... I was just seeing what this is all about, and who are you?" I asked him.
" You can't do this alone you will kill yourself do you understand?" he tells me, and I shake my head.
"Who are you?"
" My name is Elijah Reed"
