"Thank you for riding with me," I thanked Alexus, parking my car in front of Katherine's apartment building. I needed somebody to ride with me to go pick BreAnne up and I chose her.
During the ride, I let her vent to me about why she was feeling down the day that her and Diane talked. It was all due to her feeling all lonely and missing Corey. She also mentioned that he came back and he's been doing right by her.
"No problem," she replied, "how are you and Diane doing?" I shrugged my shoulders. "We ain't talked since that day."
"She'll come back around," Alexus stated confidently.
Diane was the last person I wanted to talk about. I took out my phone out of my pocket and texted Katherine, letting her know I was outside.
Less than five minutes after texting her, she was coming out of the gate with BreAnne. I got out of the car and approached them.
Katherine had her usual bitch face look on and BreAnne had the biggest smile on hers. I felt mixed emotions looking at the two, I was happy yet irritated.
"What's up Princess," I greeted BreAnne as I picked her up. I pinched on her nose and she laughed. "Hey daddy," she replied as I looked at her mother.
"What's up," I decided to speak. "Hey," she surprisingly spoke back. She had a little bit of attitude in her voice, but not as much this time.
I didn't know if I should hug her or what, I just stood there not knowing what to do. "What was that look about," she asked me. I looked at her confused. "What look?"
"Before we left each other when I picked up BreAnne, we both gave each other a look," she reminded me. I must admit, she was looking mighty fine that day, but she'll never have the satisfaction of me telling her that.
"Don't be trying to make something out of nothing, Katherine. People look at each other all the time...damn. Get on with that."
She stood there looking dumbfounded, clearly not expecting that answer. She looked at BreAnne and told her bye before walking off and making her way to the apartment's gate.
"Daddy, are you mad at mommy," BreAnne asked me as I walked in the direction of my car. "No baby, I'm not mad at mommy," I replied, opening up the passenger door.
I sat her down in her car seat and buckled her in. I made sure to buy her one of her own for my house so me and Katherine don't have to keep going back and forth with a joint one.
I then kissed her on the cheek, which made her smile. Before I could move away from her face, she grabbed my face and her gray eyes looked deep into mine. "I want you and mommy back together."
That sentence gained Alexus' full attention. I looked at her for help. "What am I suppose to say to that," I asked her, feeling my heart rip out of my chest. I never wanted her to grow up without her parents being together, but that's just how it's going to be.
"You have to be honest with her," Alexus suggested. I decided one day I would because five is a little too young to understand what's going on between me and her mother.
I looked at BreAnne again. "I know you do and if daddy had it his way, I would be with her again. One of these days, I'll tell you why that can't be."
