"And these "Games."" Tobias says, breaking the silence I didn't even realise had settled until now. "They're being reintroduced. You could go back in?"
Delly nods and puts an arm around Peeta's heaving shoulders.
"Well, we have to help you!" I say and in the quiet room my voice sounds harsh and loud.
"Yes, come back with us to Dauntless, where we come from." Tobias agrees hastily
"You'd do that? You'd help us escape?" Peeta asks, raising his head to reveal his pale, tearstained face. Tobias nods.
"So we'd better tell the others and we'd better all get going." He says hastily.
Delly gets up.
"Gale, Johanna, Annie and Jonah are staying next door at Peeta's. I'll go and get them." She says and pulls her cardigan more tightly around her.
Beetee gets up too.
"Thank you for your kindness but I must go to the Capitol. I'll explain to Plutarch on the way and tell Effie and Haymitch when I arrive." He says and I suppose the last part of that statement was aimed at Peeta as he nods understandingly.
Katniss emerges from the bedroom and sits down. She looks defeated and then Peeta tells her the plan. She looks at us in disbelief and then stands up and thanks us, hugging me hard.
"Thank you." She says again and then Gale runs into the room. "Is it true? We are escaping?" He asks incredulously.
Tobias and I nod and Gale hugs Delly happily, whirling her around. She laughs and I think how an atmosphere can change in seconds.
