“Ow. God.” I wake up to someone complaining. Gale stands up stiffly, holding his back. I roll over and hear the crunch of leaves under me. Despite last night’s freezing conditions this morning I feel hot and when I stand up I see what Gale means.

“Jesus.” I groan “My back murders!”

Someone laughs.

“Wimps!” Katniss yells over, laughing “I spend nights in the arena sleeping in a TREE!”

Tobias, Delly, Peeta and Katniss sit on the ground polishing off some bread and cheese.

“We saved you some.” Delly says

“Wow, how thoughtful of you not to let us starve!” Gale jokes sarcastically.

We sit down and eat. Afterwards we carry on walking. By midday it’s boiling. My pale skin’s burning and my forehead is sticky with sweat. The scorching heat makes me unfocused and soon enough I trip over a fallen tree. I hit the ground hard and hear my ankle go with a sickening “snap”. I grit my teeth and blink back the tears burning behind my eyes. Tobias rushes over.

“Tris! Are you ok?” He says worriedly

“My. Ankle.” I groan

“Can you walk?” He asks and I nod.

Tobias shouts Gale over and asks him to help support me. They hoist me to my feet and the world blurs. The ground swims in waves under my feet. I feel like I’m about to throw up and I must have gone pale because Gale and Tobias set me down quickly. I lay back in the dirt and groan, stomach heaving.  Katniss, Peeta and Delly catch up and look at me half sympathetically and half impatiently. “We need. To go.” I gasp, breathing hard

“Fine.” Tobias says and picks me up in his arms easily. “Let’s go.”
