I scrunch the letter up into a ball and put it on the table.

“What’s up?” Uriah asks

“Urgh, it’s from Caleb.” I say and add “My backstabbing brother.” for our new friends.

“Just read it.” Christina says “It said urgent on the envelope.”

“I know, I saw.” I tell her and give her a look that says ‘LEAVE IT’. She doesn’t.

“Tris, read it.” She perseveres.

“Fine!” I snap and smooth out the letter. I skim read it. “He wants me to meet him in Erudite.” I tell the expectant faces at the table.

“No. You aren’t going. End of conversation.” Tobias says definitely.

“Worried about your girlfriend, Four?” Uriah teases and Tobias shoots him a murderous look.

“Yes actually, so shut up.” He says and gets up. “Tris can I talk to you?” He asks seriously.

I nod and follow him out of the cafeteria. He leads me down the hall a bit and checks around. The halls are empty.

“You won’t go, will you?” He asks urgently and I consider.

I sort of want to know what Caleb wants to talk to me about. Something so important he can’t write it in a letter in case anyone finds out.

“TRIS!” Tobias snaps and I jump, realising I’ve just left his question unanswered for at least a minute or two.

“You AREN’T going! He betrayed you. Stay here. The guys from 12 need you. Uriah and Christina need you. I need you. And if you do this again. Do something spontaneous and stupid what I said before still stands. You do this, you leave, and I’m breaking up with you.”
