As we walk into the training room, which seems to have become our groups’ place, a cheer goes up. I squeeze Tobias’s hand.
“So, should we call you Four or Tobias?” Uriah asks, sat on the floor with his arm around Delly.
“Tobias. I don’t want to be defined by my weaknesses.”
We all nod in agreement. Christina pats the floor next to her and Tobias and I sit down. It’s summer now and it’s getting stuffy and hot in here.
“Let’s go outside.” Katniss suggests.
An hour later I lay in the grass where we played Capture the Flag. We’ve brought food and lots of drinks. I am reminded of the night where we played our game during initiation. When Tobias climbed the Ferris Wheel on the other side of the field after me, though he was scared of height. How his hand brushed mine as we climbed and it felt like an electric shock. Perhaps because I loved him so much or perhaps because I didn’t think I could have him.
Christina and Gale sit up on the old, rickety carousel, deep in conversation. Katniss and Peeta lay back in the grass, staring at the sky and occasionally exchanging happy smiles. Uriah and Delly sit together, drinking, having some food, laughing. And Tobias and I? I sit with my head in his lap as he strokes my hair and tells me how much he loves me.
