CHAPTER SIXTEEN

"So how're the exams going then?" Ben asked as we sat down with our coffee. Since we are on study leave I didn't have to stay in school all day. So I left early and came over to his place.

"So far so good. History and Geography went okay. I'm not too sure about my first two Maths exams though." I said taking a sip of my coffee.

"Surely all the help Mark's been giving you would've helped."

I shrugged, putting my mug down on the worktop. "He's been great with all the help. But it's just one of those exams it could've gone either way."

And Mr Hartley has been great the past few weeks. When we got off for study leave he increased the sessions to two or three a week and he basically taught me the whole course again. After he explained things, I could see that it was my own fault why I didn't do very well. But Mr Hartley never said anything about that. We just sat down and did an hour or so worth of work. There were a few times when we got into arguments. But we sorted them out pretty quickly. We've actually gotten on pretty well the past few weeks.

"And what's he say about it?" Ben interrupted my thoughts. I've actually missed seeing Ben. I've not seen him since exams started. He said once I finish, which is on Wednesday, and when Hartley finished, next Friday, we can all hang out. But I doubt that will happen.

"He said it probably went better than I thought and to not worry about it." I glanced at the clock and saw Hartley would be back soon. He never stays past four and it was five to four.

"Good advice then," Ben smiled at me. "So you guys really do some work in those sessions then?" He smirked at me, making me roll my eyes.

"Yes Ben, we do. And no that's never going to happen." I answered him before he could ask.

"When's you're next exam then?" He dropped the topic.

"Wednesday; there's a dinner after that too with the teachers." After the final day of exams, the headmaster said we could all go out to dinner together. He thought our year would be a perfect year to start it. So we've rented out a floor of a restaurant. I think it will be good fun.

"How many more sessions are you going to have with Mark then?"

I shrugged, shaking my head slightly. "We've only arranged an hour tomorrow. I don't know about Wednesday." I'm actually really glad my exams are over in two days. But a part of me doesn't think I'm ready to leave yet.

"I'm sure you'll be fine." He smiled before taking a sip of his tea.

"I don't know if I will though. I worked in History and Geography so I'm quietly confident about them. But I'm afraid that because I did nothing until the past few months in Maths, that I'll not get the grade I need." I really am nervous that I'll not get into Uni. I don't really want to take a year out.

"I'm sure you're going to get what you need. And a gap year isn't the worst thing that could happen."

"But I don't really want to take a gap year. I just want to get into Uni and out as quickly as I can." I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. "I just want to do what I want to do." I groaned hitting my head off the table. Ben laughed and pushed my shoulders up.
