Nathan did a 360, and glanced around the massive damaged caused by the storm. "So many people died Max..." Was all he could say. He was surprised Max would kill hundreds of people for a single person. He felt a tinge of jealousy. He envied the fact that she had someone who she cared for enough to sacrifice the life of others over. "I respect your opinion, but holy shit Max.." He added in. After her giant confession, he wouldn't want to be on her bad side. They were also saving him, so he should show some respect.
Max fell to her knees. "I'm so sorry.. I had seen Chloe die over and over in different scenarios!" Max was sobbing. She tried to put the flames out with her tears but they just made them grow. "I-I" Chloe tried to cheer her up.
"You did the best you could Max!" Nathan stepped closer to her. He wanted to attempt at comforting her, but he didn't exactly have much practice of doing it. And it might just make things more awkward than they already were. "S-Sorry, I didnt mean to make it sound like that." He paused to recollect his thoughts. "You're pretty fucking brave for going through such a decision like that. I don't think I would've been able to do that."
"But would you really save everyone? Or save your best friend?" Max's tears began to stop. Somehow Nathan made her feel better about the situation.
"I-I don't know. It's kind of hard to say, considering the fact that I don't really have a best friend." He awkwardly murmured. Whatever friends he did have, he probably lost them within the past week. Victoria would never forgive him if she knew about the dark room and how he was involved.
"You don't have a best friend? What about Victoria?" Max asked surprised. How does the richest kid at school not have a fucking best friend?
"You think Victoria would just suddenly be alright with the fact that I worked alongside a murderer, and helped him do his dirty work? Keep dreaming. I'm just the rich kid that everyone wanted to fucking take advantage over." He spit the words out like venom, as if they left a nasty aftertaste in his mouth. "It-It's just that I thought that you would have everyone except one or two people as your friend.."
Max started to cry again. He was making her feel bad about herself. She didn't mean for it to sound like that. "I-I'm sorry!" "Max calm down! Nathan. Lets go. Did you find a cable?" Chloe was getting harsh. He kept making Max cry. Nathan sighed and ran his hand through his hair.
"Look Max, I didn't mean to make you feel bad, I'm still a bit tense from the past week." He turned and looked. to Chloe. "Not yet, you called me over before I could check the shape it was in."
Max didn't hear what he said. She thought he was talking to Chloe the whole time. She just kept crying. Chloe started to get agitated. "Well why are you standing there?! Go check!"
Nathan was surprised with Chloe's sudden outrage. "I-" he started then stopped and shook his head. "Fine." He muttered. Nathan stuffed his hands in his jacket as he walked back to the car he was previously checking. While Chloe was trying to cheer up Max, Nathan walked back with the cable to give to Chloe.
"Thanks." Chloe snapped at him as if he were Frank. She took the cables and put them on the car. She turned the key and it rumbled to life.
Nathan sighed with relief. "Finally." He opened the backseat door, and sat inside. He tried to avoid eye contact or just any conversations with them. In fact, he just sat quietly and fumbled around with a loose thread on his jacket sleeve.
Max climbed into the passenger seat with relief. "To the diner.." Chloe muttered as she slammed the car door. Chloe slowly rolled out of the junkyard and they sped down the road.
