Anna sat, huddled under the covers on her bed, with a small light on, enough to give her a sense of comfort, while not waking up her family.
Tap
Tap
Tap
What the hell is that? Anna's head whipped around towards the source of the noise. With her faint light, she could just make out the figure crouched on the windowsill, tapping on the glass. It was Indigo. Throwing off her covers, she dashed over and opened the window.
"Indigo! You nearly gave me a heart attack!" she whispered angrily
"Oh sorry, didn't realize you were so jumpy, I though knocking was better than just invading your room!"
"Why are you invading my room anyway?"
She was suddenly aware of the fact that it was dark and she was alone in her room with a boy. She flushed and tugged her hair awkwardly. Indigo seemed to be uncomfortable too. He rubbed the back of his neck and said,
" I dunno, I kinda had this bad feeling tonight... and I saw your light from my window and I wanted to make sure that everything was okay..."
He trailed off awkwardly, not meeting her eyes. Oh gosh, he wanted to check up on me! That's so sweet, what do I say? She was saved from answering when suddenly; there was a loud thump from downstairs.
"Did you hear that?" she cried, throwing a horrified look at Indigo
"Yeah, I'm sure it was nothing," he said, but he sounded worried "Want to go check just in case?"
Anna didn't, but not wanting to lose face in from of Indigo, she nodded. She flipped off her light, and motioning for him to be quiet, opened her door and peered down the hall. Her family was still sleeping. She motioned Indigo forward and they tiptoed down the hall. Suddenly, more noises came from downstairs. Anna froze in fear. I don't want to know what's down there! I want to go back to my room! She was about to turn around, when Indigo's hand slipped into hers. Her mouth went dry. His hand was warm as he gently tugged her down the stairs towards the kitchen where the noises seemed to be coming from. They crept down the downstairs hall towards the kitchen. Anna held Indigo's hand in a death grip, crushing his fingers as they entered the kitchen warily. And there, standing by the cutting board, was Stella. She appeared to be cutting a block of cheese with a steak knife.
"Stella!" Anna whisper-yelled "What the hell are you doing?"
"Oh, I always slice cheese thinly, big slices are too much of a flavor commitment." she answered nonchalantly
"No, I mean what are you doing in my house?" Anna was exasperated, but felt so relieved that the noises in her kitchen were just her; it was hard to be mad at Stella.
"Well," she put down her knife, getting a more serious look on her face "I was hearing some creepy noises in my house and got this weird feeling, like I was being watched, so I snuck over here."
Anna and Indigo looked each other, worried, then at her, scowling at their concern.
"More importantly though," she grinned slyly at them, "why are you two holding hands? Did I miss something?"
Anna and Indigo leapt away from each other, mumbling excuses, both having not realized they were still holding hands. They were both standing a foot apart, looking at anything but each other, when Stella disappeared.
"Stella? Where are you?" Indigo asked
Anna felt a tugging on her back pocket.
"Stella did you touch my butt?" she went red, "Er, that sounded wrong, but I think she was just behind me!"
