"What are you going to do with your life? Where are you going? What job are you going to get? These are some of the questions you need to ask yourself. Why? Because if you don't start now how will you know where to start?" My lecturer preached, dancing around the room waving his arms. His name was Mr Jefferson, or Mark to the ladies. Short, styled up brown hair with thick black glasses and a light stubble. He could make any girl swoon for him with his good looks and way with words. I, on the other hand, had nothing to offer. A nervous little kid who sat in the back of the hall twiddling his thumbs. My name's Craig. Light brown wavy hair and some cheap glasses that were practically my life line to seeing. There were so many different characters in university, all of them unique. There were the usual popular kids, all huddled together one side of the seats, not even caring about what was going on. The goths and emo kids all had their place at the back, picking at their nails and constantly talking to each other.
Then there were the nerds that took every seat on the front three lines, bringing three types of pencil cases with them. I was in the lonely group, consisting of one person. Me, if you couldn't tell. I was in between a spare seat and a scene girl, not the best. The seat was free because of two reasons. Nobody wanted to sit next to me, and we had one person meant to be transferring over soon. There were no other seats available, so it's not like there was much of a choice for them. I tapped my fingers on the desk, thinking about the questions Mr Jefferson had laid down on the table to us. What do I want to do? I want to sit and play video games all day. I huffed at the thought, if only there was a job that consisted of that. I looked over at the girl next to me, herself copying my actions.
I had learnt her name was Tori from her friends calling her from a far. She had hair like she had been pulled backwards through a bush, but it was her style not mine. It was also a dark blue colour, just a shade away from black. There were a few strands of white in their too, adding to her 'edgy' look. Her clothes style were the complete opposite of mine. Black and dull. That day she was wearing three quarter long sleeved black shirt with a lace bow on the front. The rest of her arms were covered by a series of bracelets and tied paper bands. Her trousers were also a dark shade of grey with tears like ladder rungs. She had piercings too, and a lot of them. A septum piercing, snake bites and a few in her ears. It was her style and her body, so who was I to judge. She noticed me looking over at her and prevented her fingers from hitting the desk anymore.
"What?" She snapped, looking me in the eyes. I shook my head, indicating I was a little fazed out for a minute or so. She rolled her eyes.
"Uh nothing nothing. Just thinking about my future." I lied. She huffed, letting out a small laugh in the process. As if she had known me forever.
"Right. That's a first for you to listen to Mark." She shuffled around in her seat, leaning her right arm on the desk to lean her head on. She looked at me and clicked her tongue. "So what do you want to do with your life?" I breathed in sharply through my nose, remembering the short thought I had about video games.
"I'm gonna be a game developer." I boasted proudly, laying on hand on my chest. She blew the strand of hair out of her face and laughed half way through the process."You're gonna be a game developer?" She smirked. "Well I'm thinking of becoming the next top model." I felt bad for laughing, but I did anyway.
"Go big or go home." I quoted someone I didn't even know, clicking my fingers in a snazzy way. Our conversation was soon interrupted by a smacking sound coming from the front of the hall. My head snapped towards the source, seeing Mr Jefferson looking up at us with a ruler in hand. Tori had also turned to face sir, a light mumble of annoyance coming from her mouth. Sir put his ruler back down.
"Unless you feel like conversing with the whole hall, I suggest you shut up and pay attention." He commented, pacing back to the front of the room. A few giggles and words of agreement darted around the hall as faces turned to me.Tori sank in to her seat beside me, trying to avoid the eye contact of a few hundred. I, on the other hand, let my cheeks flare up red as complete strangers gave me disgusted looks. "And you're supposed to be an A+ student. I expect more from you Craig." If I had the confidence, I would have made a snide remark back. Although I wasn't, so I didn't. After a few mere seconds of awkward stares, Jefferson continued on with his lecture, walking over to his chalkboard to write on. I sighed heavily and peered over at Tori, who was still half under her desk. I nudged her shoulder and whispered. "It looks like your sucking dick under there."
She elbowed me in the stomach hard, lifting herself up from the awkward position she was once in. "If you wouldn't have been staring at me we wouldn't have gotten told off." She complained, folding her arms. I rolled my eyes, huffing.
"I thought you didn't care about how much trouble you got in to with your 'bad girl rep'." I quoted something she had previously said to me in her voice.
"Shut up. Fucking nerd." She replied, sounding genuinely pissed off. I stopped my teasing there, turning my head back to look at what Mr Jefferson was scribbling away at. I looked at my watch, seeing we only had five minutes left. I closed my notebook and slowly placed it in my bag, trying not to draw too much attention to myself.I saw a few others also following in my footsteps, putting on their coats and gloves, ready to go home. Mr Jefferson also noticed it, making himself scratch a line down the chalkboard to stop the disruption. The hall quietened down to hear him out, a stern look placed upon his face. "Before you leave remember to pick up your assessment sheets. They've been marked and I expect your feedback by next week." He called over the sounds of chairs scraping across the floor. I rose up from mine, pulling up my bag straps to over my shoulders and walking down to the front. I was stopped by Mr. Jefferson as I was about to pick up my paper.
"Craig. Good work on the assessment, but pay attention to my classes. If you do not get the notes you wont get the grades. Understood?" I hung my head.
"Yes sir." I replied a little too angrily. I picked up the paper with one hand and tucked it neatly in to my coat pocket to prevent it from being snatched. In the mad dash of people trying to escape the hall, I managed to meet back up with Tori. She was with one of her friends that was gripping her hand tightly so they wouldn't be separated in the masses.~~~~
