"Are you walking home with me Mini?" Tori taunted, looking at me from the other side of the corridor. I shrugged my shoulders, avoiding her stare. 'Mini' was a nickname I had developed from the popular kids. I was not the tallest at all, and sometimes my nickname would follow with 'Lad' as my accent was a weird mix of British and Irish. She separated hands with her friend who I had learnt was called Kara from the amount of times they had called each other's names over the noise of a hundred students. They waved goodbye and went down different corridors, Tori following me. I held my stack of books in both hands, keeping my eyes on the floor below me. Tori only walked half the way with me, which was the only reason she would talk to me in the first place. The fact that we sat together in the lecture hall was just pure coincidence.
She moved closer to me as we made our way out of the university. Our dorms were in complete separate areas of the campus, but she liked to take the long route to keep away from all the 'scummy' kids of her corridor. We usually took the off road choice and walked over grass, past a car park and under a canopy of trees. Before we finished our little walk my chest was impaled by Tori's arm, attempting to stop me from walking any more. A gasped from the hit and scrambled to keep a hold of my books, quickly turning my head to give her a stern lecture. She stopped me before I could open my mouth, using her other hand to cover my mouth. Once I had eventually understood she didn't want me to talk, Tori moved her hand to point in front of her. I followed her finger, looking over to the route ahead of us. There stood a gang of people, half of them pretty unfamiliar to me.
"What?" I snapped in a hushed voice, looking back at Tori. She rolled her eyes, obviously not in the mood for explanations. I shrugged, rolling my eyes back.
"They are the most popular kids in school. And the worst. And they're blocking the path." She replied throwing her arm out again, palm up and fingers separated.
"We'll just walk past them-" I began, which was cut off by her tugging on my arm.
"No. We wont." She finished, glaring at me through cold eyes.
"Why not? You've walked past people before." I comment sarcastically. I began to walk again, receiving another harsh tug on my sleeve.
"These people are different! You either walk with me a different way, or I go alone."
"See you tomorrow." I replied, taking my arm away from her. I heard her huff in disappointment as I took my route forward. They became clearer to see the closer I got, a total of 6 of them. Two leant against a tree, elbows touching. One was quite tall, the other being the smallest of them all. Then there was two people stood opposite, arms folded and falling. One of them wearing a red jacket with white stripes. It looked like a jacket I saw in a store I couldn't afford to buy from. One that I would only walk past and admire. The kid stood next to him was slouched and looked tired, his skin pale and a famous blue hoodie. The last two people were sat on the grass, one leg bent to rest an arm on. The guy closest to me was African American, wearing plain clothes with small branding names. The smaller they are, the more expensive. I don't get how the world works.
The last person was just starting to get up from the floor, and he was, the best looking. Light brown hair and some glasses like mine. Probably not the same as mine, seeing as mine were cheaper than hair gel. I noticed him staring back at me as I walked, only making me pick up the pace to get by. The expression on his face made me think he already hated me, just from staring. That's when the calling happened. First there were a few wolf whistles, making me turn to give them a middle finger. Before I could raise my hand I saw the kid which before gave me a pissed look, now getting nudged around by his friends. His attention was on them, as they taunted him, over me? They laughed and snickered, making me think if was definitely to do with me. On instinct, I let my arm raise up and stick its middle finger out in their direction.
The laughing quietened down, only hearing the calling of what I thought to be the kid getting taunted's name. "Tyler!" One of them giggled, singing his name.
"Ooh Tyyy." Another one said, probably nudging him around still.
"Alright I get it, fuckers." I heard him growl in reply. After that I was too far away to get a clear enough reading of what they were saying. I readjusted my backpack awkwardly, picking up the pace. I had reached the end of the pathway, leading me to a side door into the dorms. Thank god. I sighed with relief, pressing on the handle. The door swung a little too harshly, myself not realising how aggressively I'd pushed it. Someone was hit from the other side of the door, receiving a loud cry.
"Hey watch what you're doing fucke- Craig!" I heard Tori shout as she peered around the door. My face looked up at her with worry. I raised my hands up.
"I-I'm sorry Tori!" I replied shakily, not wanting to attract other people's attention."You idiot." She replied, coughing out a laugh at the end. I felt the weight of guilt lift off my shoulders a little, even though the comment didn't sound like a 'it's alright'.
"So, you made it past them without getting pummelled?" She asked, almost sounding serious. I laughed weakly, shaking my head.
"No they didn't hit me. They did some stupid whistling though."
"Typical Vanoss." She replied, huffing. Did I hear her right?
"What's a Vanoss?" I asked, looking over at her.
"What? Oh, nothing. Just. They're idiots." She looked around the corridor, finally seeing a room that seemed to have her name all over it. "I have to go. see you tomorrow." She rushed to get away from me, heading towards the room.~~~~

Merry Christmas <3
