Charlotte's POV
"The tea will be ready in a bit. You guys can wait in the living room." I said, entering the kitchen.
I got a call from Aunt Sarah that Jake will be coming over but I never expected for him to come now.
Blake's POV
Me and Jake were in the living room. We were currently sitting opposite to each other on the table, crossed legged.
There was a dead silence between us. I looked over at Jake and he seemed to be in deep thought.
"So..." I spoke up, snapping him out of his thoughts. "Hm?" he hummed, putting his chin on the palm of his hand.
"How long have you known Charlotte?" I asked him, trying to start a conversation. "Since we were kids. What about it?" he said abruptly.
I was getting sick of his attitude, "This guy... How could Charlotte be friends with someone like him..." my eye twitched in irritation.
"What about you? How long have you been friends with my princess?" he looked at me straight in the eyes.
"Not long... And why do you call her 'Princess'?" I questioned and looked at him straight in the eyes this time. "... It reminds me of the game we always played together back when we were kids." he looked away, covering his embarrassed face.
I even heard Charlotte call him 'My most trusted knight' at the front door and he would call her 'Princess'. "What kind of relationship do they have anyways and what game is he talking about?"
I snapped out of my thoughts and looked back at Jake who was still trying to regain his composure. To think he had a shy side to that rude facade of his. "She promised me..." he mumbled but I was able to apprehend what he was saying.
"Promised you what?" I asked but he didn't reply. He looked down and turned silent. The room was filled with silence until I heard footsteps coming our way.
Jake's POV
"She promised me that only we would be friends and no one else. She promised me..." that thought began to echo in my mind over and over again.
Silence overcame the room until I heard the sound of footsteps. "Sorry to keep you waiting. I also brought some cake w-- Are you guys alright? It's drop dead silent here..." she said.
"We're fine, my princess. My apologies for making you worry." I smiled, reassuring her that all was well. "Okay." she sat down in between the both of us.
"Want to try some?" she handed me a plate with a slice of strawberry shortcake. "Sure." I took the plate from her hands and took a bite.
My face brightened up as soon as the sweet taste of strawberries took over my mouth. "It's really good, Charlotte! I can't believe you could bake something this good!" I exclaimed, taking another bite of the cake.
"Blake and I made that, actually. It's for our Home Economics class." she smiled at me. "Is that so? Well thanks for the cake." I looked over at Blake and patted his shoulder, he seemed shocked at that.
"No problem." he said and took a sip of the cup of tea in his hands. "You're going to the same school as us, right?" I heard Charlotte ask. "Yup! And I heard that we'll be in the same class." I grinned.
"That's great! We can cope up with the time we haven't spent with each other." she clapped her hands and smiled.
I laughed and nodded, "I'll be in your care!". "Oh yeah! Wasn't there an assignment given to us in English?" Blake interrupted the happy atmosphere. "Yeah. We'll be drawing an illustration about the poem 'Sick Rose' and give a brief explanation about the drawing." Charlotte reminded.
"Damn it. I forgot all about that until now." Blake sighed. I just looked at the two who were discussing about the poem. They were talking and started to draw on a piece of paper.
I just stayed silent and continued eating. "I remembered how we used to do that." I looked back at them and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. I have no place in here.
I feel like an outsider. I opened my mouth to say something but decided to just stay silent. "Even though you broke your promise. I don't really want you to stay on your own when I'm not around."
I picked up a piece of paper and pencil and started drawing. I drew a young couple that was sleeping next to each other under the shade of the tree. They were holding hands and enjoying each other's company.
I smiled at the thought of me and Charlotte being together like this but instantly frowned at the thought of Blake getting in the way.
I sighed and rested my head on the soft couch that was behind me. "Wow! This is amazing, Jake! Your drawing skills have improved ever since then!" I looked over at Charlotte who was amazed by my drawing.
"It's nothing much." I waved my hands in embarrassment. "This is pretty cool." Blake looked at it in awe. I scratched my head and grinned.
I ended up helping them a bit with their assignment but I was glad to be needed by someone. I didn't like the feeling of abandonment especially from the person I care about.
The day ended quickly and I was about to go home. Blake and I were at the door about to head out.
"Thanks for helping us, Jake. I really appreciate your efforts." Charlotte smiled and kissed me in the cheek. I blushed at the her sudden touch of affection but smiled. "Anything for you, my princess."
Blake was blushing at the sight and I smirked in victory. We said our good byes and walked home.
"I can't believe she kissed you." Blake sulked. "Jealous?" I snickered. "It doesn't matter anymore. I guess I can call you my rival." he got over it quickly and smirked at the thought.
"I guess so too." I agreed with him. "I won't lose to someone like you." he said and walked off. "I don't plan to either." I said and walked off the opposite direction.
Third person's POV
"The battle for Charlotte's love has begun and I'm not planning on losing." they both thought.
