The party started at six in the afternoon the next day. The people Henry had hired to set up the party have been in the ballroom working on it for hours. My cake was six layers and completely black with what looked like paint splatters in all different colors around it. My dress looked like a dangling rose, went down to my mid-thigh and the bottom was shaped like blood red rose petals. Across my stomach was a black ribbon the tied in the back. Across my chest was green and the straps that went around my arms were shapes like black thorns. I had my hair tied up with a black ribbon. The tables were each lit a different color and there were chocolate rose petals laid all across them. Balloons were everywhere. There was a band showing up around seven that called themselves winter. It was some local band that played pop and rock music. This was a day I had dreamed about since I was very young.

People started arriving around six-thirty. I was wrong about no one showing up. It seems like people would do anything for free food and a party. Lexi and Linda showed up soon and just about tackled me.

"Oh my god this looks great! I hope mine is this awesome." Linda said. Lexi was busy stuffing her face with chocolate rose petals.

"Yeah really great," Lexi commented trying to seem involved although it was obvious that she was occupied with the free table of food.

"Oh. My. God." Linda's jaw dropped to the floor as she looked over my shoulder.

"What?" I turned around to see her eyeballing Jasper who was walking our way. He had a white button up shirt with a red tie, and some black slacks. The sleeve of his button up where rolled up around his biceps making his muscles really pop. I tried not to look too much, but it was hard but not to stare. He looked amazing. He ran his fingers back and to the side through his long black hair. It was just above his eye line. His green eyes lit up as soon as they met mine.

"Hey, nice dress." He looked like he was about to grab me and kiss me but he stopped himself and looked at Linda.

"You don't look terrible," I fallowed.

"So you two close again?" Linda said with a devilish smile.

"Yeah."

"More or less." Jasper and I looked at each other. "I'm gonna get some food." Jasper said looking anxious and left.

Linda looked at me suspiciously, "Something is going on between you two."

"No there isn't," I said quickly. A bit too quickly I might add. She continued to glare at me, arms crossed, until I confessed. She always new when something was up she could sense everything. It was like she had some sort of radar implanted in her head since birth. "We didn't have sex."

"Oh I know, you act way too innocent. Are you two dating?" Lexi and Linda both looked at me waiting patiently.

I let out a defeated sigh. "Yes," I mumbled. I couldn't lie to them. I knew it was only a matter of time before they found out anyway. They were worse than the maids.

"YES! I knew it!"

"How could you tell?"

"The way you guys look at each other, it screams love." I felt my cheeks burn.

"Oh shut up," I playfully pushed Linda.

"Weird," Lexi added.

"Not really, it's not like they're blood related, so whatever."

"True, but I mean their parents are together and they live together."

"Think of it as dating a childhood friend."

"You guys can't tell anyone though, I can only imagine what the public would think. My dad's company would tank if he supported this. Not only that by law I'm Henry's daughter, since he adopted me." I interrupted their conversation. They zipped their lips and threw away the imaginary key. I nodded and left them to the party.
