"So why don't you tell me what happened.." the detective sat in front of me in a small boxed room with a notepad. I took a deep breath. "Shayley was picking up-"
"Picking up what?" he interrupted. His nose was big, and his eyes were mean. "Heroin." I raised my eyebrow and sat back in the cushioned chair. He nodded. "I didn't know the guy. He was a new dealer. Shayley didn't know him either." The man hummed along, and wrote down the details. "And you called 911?" he asked. "I did."
"Are you a drug user?"
"Not anymore." he peered over the clipboard at me. "I tried to get Shayley clean for a while, and he never stuck with it."
"Why were you with Shayley?" he asked, not looking at me. "I was checking up on him. I broke things off with him and i hadnt heard from him."
"Can you describe this drug dealer?" I sighed. "Blonde hair, brown eyes, tan, short but taller than me." i explained. "Name?"
"Something like Todd, or Tom. Definitely a T name. He drove off in a small car black, like a Honda civic or something"
He scribbled that on the paper. "Why did you leave the house after calling 911?" I took a deep breath. "Cops bring back bad memories."After a long silence the man stood up. "I'll be in touch Abigail."
I left right after he did. I sat in my truck for about ten minutes before punching the steering wheel. "Fuck." I said. "Fuck fuck fuck."
I put my truck in drive and drove to my college where I'd been attending classes. I never see Austin and that girl.

His mom asked me to speak at his funeral. I never called her back.

My roommate walked into the dorm. Her name was Tana. She was okay. "Hey, want to run and get some food?" she asked throwing her book bag down. I shook my head and turned the page of my biology book. "Want me to bring you back something?" I closed my book and looked at my phone. "I actually uh.. Have to meet someone." I said, slipping some vans on. "Oh, uh okay? Have fun." She said sitting on her bed. She was my polar opposite but she reminded me of Jenna.
I grabbed my car keys and Shay's black hoodie. "Bye."
When I arrived at the church there were cars lined up all down the street. It took forever to find a parking spot. I entered the large doors of the holy land, and went down a long hallway until I came to closed doors with a blown up picture of Shayley outside. I flipped my hood on and slipped my sunglasses on then opened the doors quietly, and sat at the very pack pew.
Austin was talking.
"I just hope now he's at rest. I love you Shay." he said, choking. He turned around and looked at Shay, then walked off the stage. I kept my head down, and saw him walk out the church doors, a girl following close behind him.
She was gorgeous. Much prettier than me.
Shaylee's cousin went on stage an talk about how they hung out all the time when they were little. Austin was still outside. I took my sunglasses off and flipped my hood off. I quietly stood up and opened the door to the long hallway.
Austin's tall body was leaned into this girl's arms as she whispered and rubbed his back. When she saw me, her hand stopped on his back and her mouth was in an "o" shape. Austin turned around, his eyes puffy and red.
"Austin." I said.
"Abby?" he asked, getting out of the girl's hold.
He hugged me as tight as he could, basically crying on my shoulder. I buried my head in the crook of his neck and let my emotions take control of me. "I'm so glad you're alive. I haven't heard from you since August." he said, barley audible. He held my shoulders out in front of him. "Your hairs back." he smiled, wiping his eyes. I smiled, holding his hand that was touching my hair.
