Friday night marked the beginning of Thanksgiving break.
Because I had an entire week off of school, I decided to invite my friend Janie to spend the weekend with me.
Janie had been my best friend until she moved an hour away after we finished middle school.
I called her.
Voicemail
Hi! You've reached Jane. I'm not here right now, so just leave me a message after the beep! She didn't even go by Janie anymore.
I left a message.
She called back the next day to let me know she was sorry that couldn't make it.
She couldn't make it.
She couldn't make it to my house.
I couldn't make it through high school. It was just another reminder to me that everything was changing except for me.
I was stuck.
I wrote Janie, er Jane, a letter.
Jan(i)e,
Will you please try and make it to my funeral? It will be near the end of December of this year.R.S.V.P. to my mother.
Goodbye,
CaitlynP.S. Do you remember when we promised each other that we'd go to Europe together some day? I guess I can't make it. I'm sorry.
