I was extremely nervous about my date with Reece tomorrow.
I don't know why, but I felt like I needed to impress him.
Which is crazy because I've known Reece for years and he's seen me practically pulling my hair over the subjects he tutors me in.
Cylee's advice had almost made it worse. Would the date just be friendly or was Reece looking for something more?
I couldn't tell.
I was freaking out.
I went over to my neighbor Leo's house.
Leo was a few years older than me.
His family hadn't been able to afford college so he was learning to work as a mechanic at a local garage.
I immediately began to tell him my problem.
"Maybe I shouldn't go," I concluded, "I don't want the friendship we have to change."
"Look little Cait," he smiled at me, "it took a lot of courage for that boy to ask you out. I fell in love with a girl, and I'm not saying he's in love with you, but I fell in love with a girl once, and she knew it. I always thought she loved me too. But when I finally got the courage to ask her out. She never answered me, and eventually, she left. Without a goodbye."
Leo stared off wistfully at the Widow Hodson's house as he talked. The heartbreak in his voice was enough to convince me to give Reece a chance. Or maybe someone else too.
Leo,
