It was probably not the smartest idea for two teenagers with little driving experience to take an old car out on a road trip in the middle of winter when the roads are all covered in ice.
I wish I had thought of that before I left and not now as I sat in the hospital waiting room.
I was fine.
Not a single scratch.
But Bradley hadn't been so lucky.
He was alive. As far as I knew. But the doctors still wouldn't let me see him.
The crash had left me in a state of confusion.
It could be a concussion, but I don't think so.
Right before for the crash happened, right as it had just barely registered that we were going to crash, I had the strangest thought.
"I don't want to die."
I spent months on end thinking the exact opposite of the statement.
I spent months trying to figure out how to make it happen.
And when the perfect opportunity presented itself, I realized, I didn't want to die anymore.
A nurse named Ellie approached me.
"Miss Ellis? Your mom is here to take you home."
I smiled in relief.
I was safe now.
Ellie,
Will you please try and make it to my funeral? It will be near the end of December of this year.R.S.V.P. to my mother.
