Ashlyn woke up before Ali, like usual. She glanced at the clock and saw that they still had 10 minutes until they had to get up with the alarm.
"Good morning Princess" Ash greeted Ali when the alarm went off.
"Hey Ash. Let's get up and go to breakfast."
"Where to?"
"It's game day..."
"Right. I know where. Why don't you go wake up Sammie?"
"Ok, love you"
"Love you too"
Ali went into Sammie's room, and opened the door gently. She sat on the bed and rubbing her back she said
"Hey Sammie girl. Good morning. It's time to wake up. You, your mom, and I are gonna go and get breakfast. It's sort of our game day ritual."
"Hey Mommy. Morning."
Ali kissed her forehead then said,
"Come on. We're leaving in 10"
"Ok"
Sammie got up and threw some sweatpants and a tshirt on, and headed downstairs, and she ran into Ash in the hall.
"Hey Champ, how's it goin?" Ash greeted
"Hey mom, I'm excited to watch you play! You and mommy are gonna do amazing!"
"Thanks Champ! C'mon let's go meet your mommy. She gets a little crazy when she's late" Ash joked, getting a giggle from Sammie. They headed downstairs, and met Ali by the door.
"Where is the rest of the family?" Sammie asked.
"They're not coming. I figured we wouldn't wake them, they're probably tired from flying."
"Ok, let's go. I'm starved!"
Ali just laughed, "Ash, she is legit a mini you." Ali groaned
"Hey, I wouldn't be complaining"
"Yeah yeah. Let's go" Ali responded with a hint of sarcasm. They loaded into Ashlyn's jeep, and headed out to the cafe down the street that they usually go to on game days. When they walked in the door, they were greeted with a warm smile from he hostess
"Hey Ali, Hey Ash! Who do we have here?"
"Hey Jess! This is our daughter Sammie. We adopted her a few days ago."
"Oh, hi Sammie!" She greeted. "I'm surprised I haven't seen anything on Twitter or anything about you."
"Oh right. Als, we totally forgot!"
"Ugh. We'll do it when we sit down. Thanks for reminding us Jess!"
"No problem. Go take your normal seat, and someone will be over in a minute."
"Thanks!"
When they got over to their seat, they all squished together to take a picture. Ali and Ash both tweeted it out, Ali captioning it,
Introducing the newest member of the Krieger- Harris family, our recently adopted daughter, Samantha Marie Krieger- Harris!
And Ash with the caption
Couldn't be happier right now! Welcoming our adopted daughter Samantha Marie Krieger-Harris! We love you!
Immediately the tweets started flowing in, the first from Carli Lloyd,
Congrats guys. Can't wait until camp!
Then Hope Solo
Can't wait to meet her... (And see her play!)
Most of the national team tweeted welcoming Sammie to the team family, and Christie said that her girls couldn't wait to have a new friend to play with. Sammie was so excited to know she would have someone to play with, but she was even more excited to meet her idols, and to know that her idols we're excited to meet her made her beam like an idiot.
"Someone's excited, huh?" Ashlyn nudged Sammie's shoulder.
"Yeah! I mean I spent the majority of my summer watching all of them, now two of you are my parents. You saved me from a life of neglect, and now my idols are basically family. Who wouldn't be excited?"
"Yeah you're right! Only a few more weeks though! We're itching to see them too!" Right Als?"
"Yeah."
Sammie got up to use the bathroom, and Ali and Ash were talking.
"I'm dying to see the team again. You know, our daughter is so chill, Ash. Who do you think she'll get along with the best?"
"I'm gonna go with Tobs, but you know, with Tobs comes Alex, so I see our daughter becoming pretty close with Talex."
"I was thinking that too." Ali responded, just as their daughter came back.
"Hey Champ. I can't wait for you to meet Tobin, you guys should get along great. She's so chill, just like you. You know except when you let in a goal." Ash teased.
"Well, you know I don't enjoy losing... Hey isn't Tobin dating Alex?"
"Yeah, so you'll be getting a lot of time with the both of them."
"Cool. I can't wait!"
Once they finished eating around 9, they headed home, and when they got back the family was up in the kitchen.
"Hey guys" Kyle greeted. "How was breakfast?" He asked walking over to them.
"It was good"
"That's good." Kyle said picking up Sammie. "How are you Sammie girl?"
"Good. I'm excited for the game"
"Me too. We all are. It's been a while since we've all been together to see your moms play live."
"Yeah" Ali's mom agreed. "It has to have been since early last season."
"Actually," Ashlyn's father stepped in. "I couldn't make that one, so it's been two at least."
"Regardless, it's been a long time." Ali's dad said.
"Well, Ash and I have to get to the field in an hour, since it's a 12:00 kickoff today. Actually, Ash. Guess who were playing?"
"Portland. Of course I know who were playing. Why is that important?"
"Remember who we talked about this morning?"
"Oh yeah! Hey Sammie! You'll get to meet Tobin and Alex today, were playing their team!"
"Sweet! I can't wait!"
Time skip- game time

Sammie and the rest of the family were all sitting together awaiting kickoff. Both Ash and Ali got the start as usual, along with Tobin and Alex for Portland. Sammie was beyond excited, especially to meet Alex and Tobin after. During the 36th minute, the score was tied 0-0. Tobin was dribbling up the flank, and looked up and slotted one through to Alex. Ali was on her like glue, but Alex being Alex, manages to get the shot off, and hit it just to the left of Ash. Ash extended and caught it, distributing it to Ali, who found Crystal running through the middle. Crystal played Ali in the corner, and Ali slotted one to Crystal at the top of the 18, then continued the run, and Crystal found her around the 6, and Ali slotted it bottom corner for the opening goal of the match. Sammie went crazy.
"She's a defender! That never happens! And the play started with mom!"
Ali then looked up in the stands and blew a kiss to Sammie and held up a heart with her hands. Sammie was glowing. She definitely felt her parents' love now. Halftime rolled around, and couldn't move fast enough. By the time the game started again, Sammie was almost crawling out of her skin. The whistle sounded, and the spirit was able to hold their lead without concern until the 81st minute. Then Alex got taken down in the box, and a penalty was called. Sammie winced, but she knew that Ash had it. Alex lined it up, and got prepared to take it.
"She's going left, Uncle Kyle. Look at her hips. Left bottom corner"
"Let's see if you're right."
Alex ran up to the ball and Ash instantly dove bottom left corner, right where Alex placed it. She was even able to corral it, with no rebound. She sent the ball up field, and glanced at her daughter looking down at her with admiration. Her entire family was, in fact. Kyle looked especially shocked. She made a mental note to ask him why later.
"Told ya, Uncle Kyle." Sammie giggled.
"How?" Kyle breathed.
"That's what the goalies worked on at practice the other day. I watched the whole thing. Then mom stayed later with me to make sure I got it. The way she was running to the ball, and the way her hips were facing gave it away."
"Wow. You are something else, Sammie girl."
The final whistle sounded, and the Spirt won, because of Ali and Ash. Ashlyn told Tobin and Alex to wait on the pitch before signing autographs, and she ran to go get Sammie. Kyle was standing with her.
"Hey Ash!" He called. "Sammie totally called where she was going on that PK. And she didn't just guess. She used the hip placement thingy you trained. It was amazing!"
"Is that right? I'm proud of you Champ!"
"I'm proud of you Mom!"
"Thanks Sam! Come on. Let's go meet Tobin and Alex. I gotta warn you. Alex is a little upset about missing the PK, but I told Tobin to try and calm her down. Just don't take offense if she is a little cold, she is as nice as she is shown" Ash explained as they walked over to Ali, Alex and Tobin.
"Hi Mommy!" Sammie called out
"Hey Sammie! How's my girl?"
"Good! I wanna meet Alex and Tobin."
"Good they wanna meet you too!"
Much to Ash's relief, there was no hard feelings or cold shoulder. Alex was so excited to meet Sammie.
"Hi sweetie! You must be Sammie! I'm your "aunt" Alex! This is my girlfriend Tobin."
"Hi" Sammie greeted.
"Hey Sam. I'm Tobin. From what your parents say, were gonna be pretty close."
"I hope so"
"The only downside to being close with me, is that she comes with the deal." Tobin joked pointing to Alex. That earned her a smack in the arm.
"Hey. Ow!"
"Watch it!" Alex warned jokingly.
"Hey, do you guys way to come over for dinner tonight? Ash is grilling." Ali invited.
"Sure. Good with you, Lex?"
"Yeah good with me. We look forward to getting to know you better, Sammie."
"Hey wait!" Ash called. "Take my gloves and get in goal champ!"
"Ok" Sammie said, running towards goal.
"Alex, shoot. Don't go easy."
"You sure?" I don't wanna hurt her."
"I'm one of her mothers. I would never put her in danger. Trust me. Plus Ali isn't stopping me, so that should be validation enough."
"Ok" Alex sighed. She hit one hard, and naturally Sam knocked it wide. Alex and Tobin were amazed.
"Hey Lex! Pick up your jaw!" Tobin joked.
"That was my reaction exactly," Ali chimed in.
"That was amazing!" Alex said and she took off running towards Sammie. She picked her up and spun her around.
"That was so good," she whispered. "Work hard and you'll be at the top one day."
"I promise. Now I think you have some fans to sign for."
"Oh yeah!" Alex chuckled. "See you tonight!"
"See you!"

In the car on the way home-
"I knew you'd get along." Ali bragged
"That was amazing!" Sammie sighed. "And I get to see them again tonight!"
"Get used to it champ" Ash said. "They're basically your second family"
"That's so cool!"
