Rio. Rio. Rio.
I woke up with one thing on my mind and one thing only. Rio De Janeiro. Today was the day. The day I've been training for. The day I've been waiting for since they won without me last time. I shot up out of bed at the sound of the alarm, and Ash sprang up after me.
"Rio" she smiled.
"Rio." I nodded back. Just then Sammie ran into the room and onto our bed.
"Rio." She said excitedly.
"Rio." Ash and I agreed.
"I'm so proud of you Alex." Ash said kissing me. "We're winning this for you." She whispered to me. "Now. We have a plane to catch and if we move quickly, we can grab breakfast before the airport." Ash said taking control. "Everybody is packed correct?"
"Affirmative." Sammie saluted causing Ash to chuckle and tap her on the butt on the way out.
"Hey!" Sammie squealed.
"Oh psh. Relax!" Ash laughed.
"Mommy! You're not gonna let her do that, are you?" Sammie whined at me. I sighed and playfully slapped Ash on the arm.
"Hey! Alex!"
"Eh." I shrugged.
"If it weren't five in the morning I'd argue with you. But we need to get going. Samantha go get your stuff. Alexandra go do your ridiculously long morning routine."
"Full names, Ashlyn?"
"Yes. You seem to listen better when I use them." Ashlyn said with an authoritative tone. It was rather sexy.
"Yes ma'am!" Sam and I saluted as we left to our respective rooms to grab our stuff. While I went and did my mascara and such, Ash grabbed our suitcases and met Sammie downstairs. I finished my stuff, grabbed my jacket and met them in the kitchen.
"Ready Princess?"
"Yup. Let's go!" I was so excited to finally compete in the Olympics after what happened in 2012. We hopped in the car, and headed to the airport, grabbing breakfast on the way. We had to meet the team in Tampa, so we could all fly to Rio together. It was only an hour and a half flight to Tampa but we had a five hour layover once we got there, so I'm not sure what we'll do yet, it depends on who's there.
Now boarding flight 729 to Tampa
At the announcement we got up, and boarded the flight.
"Mommy can I get the window?" Sammie begged me.
"Sure. Ash you get the middle." I instructed.
"Okay." She agreed without an argument. I think in part because she knew I was gonna win. Once we took off, I watched as Sammie pulled up the arm rest between her and Ash and laid her head down on Ashlyn's lap. Within ten minutes they were both out like a light. So, like any good mother and wife would do, I took a picture to be posted from Tampa. It was only an hour flight, so before I knew it, I was waking the two of them up.
"Ash. We're landing. You gotta get up." I whispered. She stretched and rubbed her eyes, before turning to face me.
"I love you Ali."
"I love you too Ashlyn." I whispered. Ashlyn rubbed Sammie's shoulders to wake her up. Sammie sat up groggily, and yawned while stretching.
"When do Alex and Tobin get in?" She asked.
"Probably after us. They probably got on a flight around the same time as us but should be here three hours later." I responded simply as we headed towards baggage claim. I honestly thought that was the answer, so I was utterly surprised to see Alex and Tobin waiting for us. Sammie looked up, and made eye contact with Alex, so she took off running towards her. Alex caught her and spun her around, and they laughed together. I watched as Alex put her down, and she jumped into Tobin's arms. Ash and I made our way over to greet the two.
"Hey guys. Why are you here?"
"We just hung with Kelley for two days because we just played Sky Blue." Alex explained.
"Is Kelley here?"
"Yeah, she's just grabbing coffee. There she is! Kel! Over here!" Alex called.
"Hey guys!" She called.
"Hi Kel!" Sammie said.
"Hey Sam. What's going on?"
"Nothing much."We all walked off and found somewhere to sit, and Ash went to get us coffee, or hot chocolate in Sammie's case.
"So, we have 5 hours until we need to be back at the airport. The flight is in 6. Were you guys just going to stay here?" Alex asked.
"We were gonna check in with whoever was here when we got here. I'm personally not too keen on the idea of sitting in an airport for 6 hours."
"Yeah that's what we were thinking." Kelley said just as Ash was getting back.
"What were you thinking?" She asked.
"That we don't wanna sit in an airport for 6 hours." Tobin explained as Ash handed us our drinks.
"Thanks mom." Sammie said.
"Thanks Ash."
"Yup. So what's going on?"
"Not sure. We were just talking."
"Oh okay. Well, I mean I don't know how much you explored, but there is a lot to do in the airport." Ash explained.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah there's sit down restaurants, shopping, and even a salon. But I mean, we could go downtown if you want to get out."
"Doesn't matter to me." Tobin said and we all agreed.
"Well, I say we just hang here. We don't know how traffic will be on the way back. If we're here we don't run the risk of missing the flight." Ash bargained.
"Yeah that makes sense." Kelley agreed.
"Okay so it's settled? We'll stay here?"
"Yup." Everybody agreed.
So, for the next few hours, we remained in Tampa International Airport, browsing around the shops, until we found a restaurant where we sat down. We all ordered our drinks, and once our waiter came back, we ordered our food. There was an awkward silence, only to be broken by Kelley. I mean who else?
"Sooo. You guys excited for Rio?"
"No. It's going to be the most miserable experience ever." Tobin said sarcastically as she swatted her shoulder.
"Hey just tryna break the tension." She laughed. Our waiter eventually came back with our food, and we ate fairly quickly. He came back to clear our plates, and to see if we needed anything else.
"Just the check." Ash told him.
"Actually, you guys are all set."
"Huh?"
"As long as you promise to win gold this summer." He said with a wink.
"Wow thank you!" I said. We got up and it was time to head to the terminal. Once we got there, we met up with some of the girls, with the others arriving soon after.Flight 683 to Rio De Janeiro now boarding.
Ash and I locked eyes as we sat in our seats on the plane.
"Rio." We both nodded as the plane took off and left the US.Rio.
