The next night, I had loose curls in my long hair and wore a simple, yet sophisticated, cute dress. I avoided heels for two reasons - I didn't feel like struggling to walk tonight and I didn't want to be any closer to Xiumin's height than I already was.
It was way sketchy in the parking garage, but then I saw Xiumin by a car, quietly waving me over. When I walked over, he opened he door for me and got in, and drove off.
I was on a date with Xiumin.
Was this a date? I didn't even know.
He didn't say much while driving, and then we finally arrived at the restaurant. He opened the door for me again and we walked into the restaurant.
I picked up the menu, and again, it was in Korean. I exhaled, putting it down. "Can you just order something for me? I can trust you, right? Or is this payback for last night."
Xiumin smiled, and picked up the menu and shoved it back into my hands. "No. You order for yourself. Find something and I'll tell you how to say it."
"Minseok, what the hell. I don't know any Korean. This isn't fair."
"Stop being such a typical white person. It won't kill you to try something."
I leaned back in my chair, pretending to read the menu, but set it down after 20 seconds. "What are you getting?"
Xiumin looked at me as he set down his menu. "Um, cute. Nice try, not happening."
I glared at him from across the table and randomly picked something. "Okay, how do you say that?"
"That's a beverage. Unless you did that on purpose."
"This is so hard," I said, exhaling again. "Fine. This." I pointed and showed Xiumin.
After we ordered, which was a struggle I'm going to try to forget, we sat in silence. I can't deal with silence, so I began asking questions. "Who would you say is your best friend in Exo?"
Xiumin's smile faded and he didn't answer right away. "Chen, I guess now."
"Oh shit. No. I'm sorry," I said, realizing I made him think about Luhan.
"Amy, you apologize a lot. It's okay, we're all moving on. I'm excited for this comeback. This sounds so horrible, but with two less people, I could get more lines." He smiled.
"That doesn't sound horrible. With a band this size I think it would be hard to stand out," I said.
Xiumin nodded. "So when did you get into Kpop? And Exo? And why?"
"I go on YouTube more than I should," I said. "It was in the related videos of Psy. I was bored, so I checked you guys out, and I was immediately obsessed. My friends thought I was a freak. Now, they're jealous I got out of the country."
Xiumin smiled. "That's great."
I nodded, and our food came, and my food was surprisingly good. "Minseok, thanks for doing this for me. It was really nice.." I was going to make it light. "I always knew you were my favorite for a reason."
Xiumin stopped eating and looked at me. "I'm your bias?"
"Well, as a fan, yeah. But as a manager, you are all equal."
Xiumin smiled. "I'm your bias."
"Minseok, chill. It means nothing because I'm not a fan. I mean, I'm not supposed to be."
He nodded. "Okay, okay."
After the restaurant, he walked me the long way around the block and we ended up at a park with a bridge over a very small man made body of water but it was so pretty.
"I just want you to know that I think you'll be a great manager," Xiumin said, slipping his hand into mine as we walked toward the bridge. "And I trust you. Even though a lot of the others don't."
"Thank you, that means a lot," I said. "I'm going to try so hard to make life easier for you all."
"I know you will," Xiumin said, and gently pushed me up against the railing and looked at me, standing only centimeters from my face. His hand went to my neck, and the other hand rested on my waist which was slipping to my back to push me closer to him.
This was wrong. This was so wrong. I was his manager. What if Kim J found out? Would Xiumin get in trouble too?
But Xiumin didn't seem to care about any consequences, so I didn't either. My hands rested on his shoulders and he slowly leaned in, his lips pressing up against mine. It took me a second to realize that I was actually kissing the Xiumin, and I began smiling into the kiss, which Xiumin returned with. The innocent kiss turned into making out faster than I realized, and when he broke away to kiss me on my neck, I gently pushed him away. "You have practice in the morning. You should get your sleep," I said.
"You're right," Xiumin said, kissing me one last time before we walked back to the car.
When we got to the dorms, the hallway was dead quiet. I pulled Xiumin close so I could whisper to him. "What happened tonight..."
"Right," Xiumin said. "Never happened." His eyes looked sad.
I nodded. "I'm sorry, Minseok."
"It's okay. I understand. See you tomorrow morning," Xiumin said.
I walked to my dorm and closed the door, only to hear a distant knock, as if Xiumin was knocking on one of the doors, not mine of course. I opened mine only enough for me to hear anything.
"Did you do it? Did you kiss her?" Kai's voice.
"Yeah."
"And you still insist on me paying you?"
"Yeah, I still hate her. I had to spend way too long experiencing her annoying, close minded, naive ways of the US."
"But you kissed her! You're the real MVP."
"Anyone could have done it. You could have done it. All the fans like you anyway."
"No - it had to be you. You're her favorite."
"Yeah, and I wish I wasn't."
