They never smile. They never show emotion. Everything all the time is cold. They wear the face of a rock all day. They never open up about anything. They always hold everything in. They don't like to talk to others about themselves. They barely like to talk at all. Most conversations with them are one worded. You ask a question and they answer with a yes or no. You try talking about something, you simply ask a question and they shut you out.

Don't be fooled by their cold appearance and stone-like stare. The tough guy cares more than you think. He has more emotions than what's expected. He doesn't want people to know that! He's built walls and burned bridges and set defenses! It doesn't matter who you are or how close you are with him. The tough guy has a reputation. He doesn't want you ruining it. If there's something you want to know and it it's something he doesn't want to share, say goodbye. You'll never know what it is. He'll never tell. That's a promise.

Don't be mistaken. He isn't the bad boy. The bad boy is a rebel. He's a school stereotype (but when you think about it, we all are). The bad boy and the tough guy aren't the same people. Just because they have a few similar traits does not make them identical. They are close though. They could be identical twins. They are often times mixed up. Here's the difference though.

The bad boy doesn't really care. He's a rebel. He's adored and admired by the students and loathed by school staff and officials. He doesn't give a damn about anything. He's a rebel. He's no good and yet, everybody loves him. No matter what you do, his friends won't remember you. In their world, you are a small bug and they are a giant shoe.

The tough guy is the polar opposite. He seems unapproachable and cold. He intimidates you. His friends don't know you, but they'll remember you if you make yourself known. The tough guy himself will remember you. He might even befriend you. You'll become good friends. You'll see sides of him you never knew existed. The more familiar you are with one another, the more the both of you learn. The more you open up. You form a trust. You confide in one another even when others tell you not to trust him.

You never knew the tough guy. Others don't know him either. They base the person he is based on his cold expressions. And as it turns out to be, the tough guy has more emotions and feelings towards things than anybody else. As it turns out to be... The tough guy isn't so tough after all.
