This wasn't suppose to happen. Everything was suppose to be perfect. I was suppose to have a father that wanted to be with my family. My mom's job was supposed to pay her more, and I was suppose to be the great A student. The best daughter my mother could ask for. But I was wrong.I was wrong about everything.

My life wasn't like this before. It was crappy, but it was at least somewhat normal. At least, it was before something happened. Something that changed my moms and I's life.

(Flashback)

She was only six when it happened. It was cloudy, it had been all day. White snowflakes fell all through the afternoon. The ground was filled with the Chicago slush. Some streets were worse than others, but for the most part, it was the side streets.

The mother in the front seat was whipping away the last tear she swore she'd shed for that man. She was a mother first before she was a fiance.Well in this case Ex-fiance.She would do everything in her power to save her child. Tara could've gone back to Charming, back to where her forgotten love was. Back to where her life started.

Her child was innocently giggling in the backseat, watching the cartoon playing on the portal DVD player in the mini van. Her eyes were wide and filled with excitement. Innocent. That was what Winnie was. Innocent. She was the child that had that smile that could light up a room. A child that could make you laugh with her. She was one of a kind.

Winnie wasn't remotely affected by the scream of her parents that day. In fact, she could almost say she was used to it. But even as a child, she would hide away her own feelings, and helped her mother get through the difficulties of everyday life. Of course, she didn't know what everyday life was, she just knew when her mother was hurting and when she was upset.

Tara was on her way to go home . . .when. . .when it happened. She didn't even see the semi sliding straight for them. The driver slammed on his breaks and prayed. But, the loud sound of a bomb went off, and the semi met the drivers side of Taras vehicle. People on the cold Chicago streets gasped in shock as the van rolled and rolled, until finally the van hit the hard steel street pole and landed on its side. At first it was silent all around, there were no sounds in the vehicle that announced anyone was alive.

But then . . .

Tara coughed as she finally awoke from the crash. She heard people asking if she was alright, their voices echoed inside her ears as her head swimmed and fought for complete consciousness. Her head was pounding and something dripped down from her forehead. Tara at first didn't remember the crash but then was greeted with the image and the worry. She didn't care about herself or the stupid vehicle, and as selfish as it sounded, she didn't care if she hit anyone. What she cared about was the little girl in the back seat, still strapped in and unbearably silent. There were no whimpers coming forth from her small oval shaped mouth. Her daughter's eyes didn't flutter open. Instead, her body was slumped to the side, her arms and legs hanging with her.

Tara at first couldn't find her voice, but it was her daughter! Her baby girl! Her child! She had to do something,". . .Winnie!" A coughing fit begun right after, and the smell of burning metal and gasoline filled her nose. "Sweetheart?!" Nothing. There was nothing but the voices from outside. Tara could barely see her child, and the seat belt that lung to her body was obstructing her from turning. "Oh, god. Please, no. No, no, no, no! Winnie! Someone please help! Help!"

. . .

Obviously, Tara and Winnie both lived. But right there and then, Winnie discovered something. 'Mom changed.' She thought. 'She was still herself, but she was more protective.' That was the moment, she met Kohn. That was the moment, Winnie experienced life and death. Where she learned that every moment in her life meant something. That's why she fought.
