"Happiness was something everyone experienced at least some point in their life. The only problem with happiness is there were always be sadness that comes with it."

"How did you get Gemma into the hospital?" I questioned my mother while I watched Kyle rough house with his buddies on the school grounds. I thought she wasn't going to tell anyone and I also thought she wasn't going to let Clay or any of the boys know.

"I lied and said that your brother needed more tests that had too be done." My mother growled angerly into the phone. She sighed and even though I couldn't see her, I knew she was running her hand through her hair. "Winnie, I need you too tell me something; and make sure its the truth when you speak - were you involved with this? The kidnapping - the abuse."

"No." I squeezed my eyes shut as I lied straight through my teeth. "I promise. She dropped me off before it happened." There was silence over the phone and I only hoped she believed me. "H-how is she mom?"

"She has minor tears and a small infection. I'm assuming with the way her face is, the attackers had rings on." I winced inwardly as flashbacks sprouted through my head. I heard their fists contact with Gemma's face. I heard her skin and clothes rip. "Win? Are you okay?"

I nodded against my phone as I pulled my hair too one side. "Yeah. Yeah I'm okay. Is dad their yet?"

"The whole crew is here. Winnie, please stay clear out of this. I wouldn't know what too do if I ever lost you."

"Mom, trust me. I'm safe." I got this. I silently added. I glanced up and smiled as Kyle began to jog my way. "Hey mom, I got to go. I'll talk to you during lunch?"

"Yeah, honey. I love you and be safe."

"Love you too, mom. Take care of the grumpy queen will ya? She doesn't like tardiness." I giggled with my mother. "Bye mom." I  hung up my phone and greeted my boyfriend. 'My boyfriend'. That sounded extremely weird coming out of my mouth let alone thinking about the word. "Hey you."

"Hey." He greeted back as he wove his fingers into my curled hair. Kyle smiled back as he tilted my head back and kissed my lips. The kiss was soft but it was possessive, as if too show everyone whose I was. I didn't mind. It allowed everyone too see that we were both taken. He pulled back and looked behind him. "I got someone I want you too meet."

I scrunched my eyebrows together and chuckled in confusion as he pulled my arm towards a dark blue Cadillac. Inside sat two men.  The driver, I couldn't see him, only his knuckles that were cracked open slightly. Who was he taken me too? "Kyle?" I whispered. The knife in my backpack seemed to weigh heavily as the passenger held up a hand and got out of the car.

Kyle pulled away from me and embraced the slightly taller man in a brotherly hug. The man he hugged had a short buzz cut that had been cut straight in the back. He was tanned and I couldn't tell if it was his skin tone or the California sun. "Nice too see you too brother."

Kyle laughed and pulled back, I waved towards the man who currently had no name as he glanced at me. "Hello." I greeted.

Kyle grabbed my hand and stood by me, "Ezekiel, this is Winnie."

I reached forward too shake hands and felt my insides almost melt as he smiled at me. This man was handsome and his voice was deep but I would never leave Kyle. Ezekiel shook hands with me and chuckled. "You can just call me, Ez. Its easier that way."

I laughed with him. "Yeah, I think that would be easier." Behind us the bell rung. As much as Kyle loved too keep his grades up, I knew he wanted a little bit more alone time with his brother. "I got to go." I reached forward and kissed his cheek. "I'll see you later?" Kyle nodded back his eyes on his brother. Before I left, I said goodbye to Ez. "It was nice meeting you. Maybe you can swing by more often and we all can catch up." I didn't give him time too answer as I practically ran inside of the school before the doors were shut.

I ran up the two flights of stairs and ignored the teachers who told me too slow down. I all but fell into my classroom before the second bell went off. Vivian smiled at me and waved me forward. Thankfully the teacher wasn't even here yet. I walked towards the empty seat that was set next too the window.

"How are you almost late every time now?" Vivian questioned with sigh.

I shook my head and plopped my math book on the desk. "I don't know. Just been busy lately." Like threatening cops, killing people, training with my father, lying too my mother, and getting kidnapped. I'm surprised I haven't started too write my own book.

"Yeah." She smirked playfully. "I've known you've been busy. By the way, next time you use my hair brush, put it back where it belongs. I had too search for it this morning."

"Sorry." I said without thinking about the word. I could care less really about her hair brush, I was more concerned about this Ez person. "Viv?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you have another brother named Ez?" I asked in confusion. I was pretty sure Vivian would have told me if she did. Was he honestly Kyle's brother or was he a "brother" like a club brother. I knew the answer without even hearing Viv's side of the story. Was Kyle apart of something much bigger then illegal street racing?

She laughed her curls bouncing as she shook her head. "No. What kind of a name is "Ez" anyways?"

I glanced outside as Kyle pulled something away from his mouth and gave it back to Ezekiel. Kyle placed his back too the school and gave his "brother" his full attention. "That's what I was afraid of."

"What?" I shook my head, telling her I didn't say anything. "Whatever. Why did you wanna know about him anyway?"

I wiped my head towards her as her eyes grew like saucers. "Who?" She cleared her throat and shook her head back at me and opened her math book. "You know who I'm talking about don't you?" Silence was all that met me. "You're hiding something from me."

"No I'm not and drop the subject."

"Yes you are. You wanna know how I know you're hiding something from me?" Her eyebrow rose in a challenge. "You opened your math book upside down and unless you know some secret formula that I don't I suggest you tell me the truth."

Vivian grabbed onto my red sleeve and leaned forward. The classroom was booming with multiple voices and her she was acting like we were in a library. "Trust me, Winnie. Don't get involved with this."

"How can I get involved with something when I don't even know what that something is?" I stressed out as I moved closer too her. "Vivian. Is your brother in trouble?"

"Drop it." She snapped at me. I reeled back in surprise, she never snapped at me.

I was concerned for her and her brother. Why does she get too snap at me? "The only reason why I asked was because of that." I pointed outside to where the men were talking. Her eyebrows shot up in surprise.

"What is he doing?" She whispered to herself as we both watched quietly as Kyle climbed into the car and peeled out of the school parking lot with nothing following behind them except dust.

"That's a good question."
