In this collab with Garmaurules_18, we're writing the story during our original setting that'd i'd like to explain to our readers and friends, so that no one gets confused within the next few chapters.
The technology is completely up to date, smartphones and flat screen TVs... etc. etc.... On the other hand, the world that is generated for our characters are still run under a king/queen concept.
Meaning, there are towns and cities under controlled by a higher person. And usually, people would ask a person "Which region are you from?" which would usually mean the town or city.
Also, our school in the story is somewhat a high school/college type of thing, where people would move into the dorms which were provided by the school and spent their entire day there, unless there are holidays, which is when students have the option of returning to their hometown to visit family, or remain in school(because the are lonely kids ;-;) .
There are ships to bring the students back and forth from the towns to the school, and certain towns and cities have different amounts of time to arrive at the school (which explains why there was no one else but Julie in her dorm, since she's from a region closest to the school).
A king or queen usually lives within the center of their main village, where there is usually a large house or even a castle for their living.
(Kingdoms may have more than one village)
