Chapter 27 (Liam’s P.O.V.)
I hated to admit it, but the guys had been right. I did need to get out of the apartment. They all decided that we would go to this arcade that we had been looking at, and have some fun. We had just walked in, and I could hear cheering that sounded like Tracey. I turned and saw her cheering as Hannah and Sabrina faced off in a dancing competition. My eyes stayed on Hannah though, I had missed her so much. I knew now why the guys had wanted me to come tonight, they had planned for me to see her. I smiled as I watched her. She was good and she was having fun, I could tell by the smile on her face. When the music stopped, she was deemed the music. Then she turned around to talk to Tracey, stopping when she saw us. I smiled at her.
That was when she ran.
Tracey and Sabrina looked at me sadly, but I didn’t stand there. I took off after her. I turned a corner and saw her dart from the arcade. I followed, trying to go faster. I raced down the crowded streets, trying to keep an eye on her as she ran. She could run faster than I had anticipated. I hoped that she would tire out soon, because I couldn’t keep this pace for much longer.
I must have chased her for an hour, because the sky was begin to show the beginnings of the sunset. I panted heavily as I kept her in my sight. I wasn’t sure where she was running to, or if she even knew where she was running to. I just wanted her to stop.
She finally began to slow down as she reached a familiar place. I slowed down for a moment as I entered the park we had visited a few weeks ago. It seemed like forever ago since we had been here and shared that sandwich and ice cream.
I looked up at Hannah. She was walking, her hands holding her arms. I didn’t think she knew I had followed her all the way here. I decided not to push my luck by calling her name, so I began to jog. I stopped before I was behind her. I didn’t want to scare her, but I didn’t want to tip her off either.
“Hannah?” I said.
She jumped, turning to see me. I could see tears in her eyes as she tried to turn and run. I reached forward and grabbed her arm.
“Wait!”
She froze, face down and turned the other way. I turned her to look at me, but she continued to look down.
“Hannah,” I said, “What’s wrong? Why did you run?”
She tried to turn away from me again, but I wouldn’t let her budge. I wanted to know what was bothering her. And if it was me.
“Hannah,” I tried to lean down to see through her hair, “speak to me.” I said the last part softer. I was about to start begging when she began to speak.
“Because I screwed up.” She mumbled. I don’t know if she wanted me to hear that or not, but I did.
“What are you talking about?”
She looked up at me, a tear ran down her cheek, “I was horrible to you.” She exclaimed.
I looked at her in shock. She was upset because she thought she had been horrible to me, or maybe hurt me.
“I didn’t tell you about what I was doing. I went off to do a movie and couldn’t tell you. I tried, but it never happened. And then I just kept coming up with excuses to tell you instead of the truth. And then, when I felt bad about that, I could text you or anything because it just made me feel worse.” She ranted on as the tears left her eyes, “I’ve been such a horrible person to you. I wouldn’t blame you if you hated me.”
I pulled her into a hug at that. I heard her gasp, but I didn’t care.
“I could never hate you, Hannah,” I whispered in her ear, “Never.”
I slowly felt her wrap her arms around me and return the hug. We just stood there and held each other. I felt Hannah crying into my chest, but I didn’t care. I hated seeing her sad, and didn’t want to see it ever again. The worst part was that she was upset because she thought she had let me down. I felt her push on away a little, so I did too.
She looked at me, “Can you forgive me?”
“I was never mad,” I said, “but yes.”
I pulled her close again. I smiled as I felt her snuggle into my chest.
“Thank you, Liam.” She whispered, “Thank you.”
