Chapter 35 (Hannah’s P.O.V.)
I was walking through the park and it was dark. There was no one else in the park, but I wasn’t surprised with how late it was. What was I doing here anyway? I don’t remembering coming here. And where were the girls? Maybe they were just trying to prank me for old time’s sake. I mean, they did like to try and pull pranks on me back in high school.
“Ok, Trace.” I said, “This is enough.”
There were no response. I looked around, seeing a few lights up ahead. I decided I should go to them. I was about half way there when the wind picked up. All of my hair blew in front of my face. I tried to move it when I heard a noise behind me. I spun around, seeing nothing.
“Hello?”
The only sound I could hear was the wind and the pounding of my heart. I was scared. I had no idea what was going on.
“Tracey?” I asked, “This isn’t funny.”
I waited to an answer, but got nothing. I took a step backward, before turning to head to the lights again. I froze. There was someone there. They were standing on the path in front of me, not even ten feet away. I stared at them of a minute. I couldn’t move, I couldn’t scream.
“There you are.” He spoke as he took a step toward me.
I stepped back, regaining control over my legs. I needed to run. And that is what I was going to do. I turned and took off.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
Then a hand grabbed my arm, another going over my mouth before I could scream.
I shot up in my bed, sweat pouring down my face. I panted heavily as I scanned my room. I clutched my chest as I tried to calm myself. It had only been a dream. I was in my bedroom and I was fine. I leaned forward, putting my head in my hands. I knew that late night walk was a bad idea for me.
I reached for my phone. I needed to talk to someone. I turned my screen on, seeing what time it was. It was after two, there was no way that any of the girls were still up. That left me one option.
R u awake?
I held my phone close as I waited for a reply. I didn’t think I would get one, because it was too early. Just as I finished my thought, my phone vibrated.
Wats up?
I looked at his reply and sighed. I was so happy that Liam was answering me. I really needed that now.
Did I wake u up?
Moments later I was answered, No
Can I call?
Then my phone began to go off. I looked down to read: Incoming Call: Liam. I answered it and was questioned before I could even say anything.
“Are you okay?” I heard, “What’s the matter?”
I could hear the concern in his voice, but I could understand it. If he was wanting to call me at three in the morning after the text I sent, I would be concerned too.
“I…” I said, afraid to say it as if it would come back or become real, “…I had a bad dream.”
I kind of felt like a little kid. I had wanted to call him just because of a bad dream, I was pathetic.
“Are you okay?” he was still concerned. He didn’t seem to think that I was pathetic. I decided that I should talk to him, since he was already listening.
“I think so.” I answered, “It just really scared me.”
“What was it about?” he cut in really quickly, “You don’t have to say if you don’t want to.”
I shook my head, “No, I think I should.”
“Okay,” he said before going silent.
I took in a deep breath before I began to talk. I pulled my covers closer as I told him the dream, very detail because I remembered it so vividly. Liam stayed quiet as I talked, but I knew he was still on the other end of the line. I felt as if it was forever before I finally got the ending with the guy.
“Oh my!” I gasped.
“What?!” Liam freaked out a little, “What’s wrong?!”
“The guy in my dream was the same guy who jumped me that night.” My lips were trembling. The thought of that man getting ahold of me again made me wanted to lock my front door and never leave my apartment.
“Just relax, Hannah.” Liam spoke through the phone. His words were soft but strong. They calmed me a bit.
“Now did something trigger this dream?” I loved how he was trying to figure out what had caused my nightmare, so he could fix it.
“The girls and I went for a late night walk through the park.” I started, “And I had this uneasy feeling the entire time it was dark.” I hadn’t wanted to tell the girls, because I didn’t want to ruin our fun. I did have fun, but I always had this sinking feeling that someone was watching me,
“Okay,” he said, “I am banning you from doing that ever again.” He was being serious. “And I want you to be more careful. I don’t want you to chance something like before happening again.”
And I didn’t either. I really wanted to just forget about that night, but I couldn’t. To forget that night, I would have to forget Liam.
“Promise me that you’ll be more careful.”
I nodded my head, “Yeah.”
“Yeah what?”
He wanted to know that I had heard him and understood that he was being completely serious about this. It made me feel better to know that someone else was worried and looking out for me.
“I promise that I will be more careful.”
“Good,” he said, “And if you ever want me to take you home, just give me a call.”
“Okay,” I replied.
“And don’t be afraid to call me for anything else either. I’m always here for you.”
I felt my heart skip a beat. This all just seemed too good to be true, but I knew it wasn’t.
“Okay,” I muttered, “Thank you, Liam.”
“It’s nothing.” I could tell that he was smiling on the other end, “So what shall we talk about to calm your mind.”
And with that, we began to talk. We must have talked for at least an hour, but Liam wouldn’t hang up until he was sure that I was fine.
