This was the lead-in Poem to my most popular short series of Poems. 9 Poems following a woman's devotion to a child she gave up at birth.
Again this series was inspired by Zara Williams and a note that she left for her daughter to be presented to her on her 18th birthday.
I hold you
one last time
and gaze
into your beautiful blue eyes
Eyes that look
not at me
but around me
trying to comprehend
struggling to focus
to understand
Eyes that have just begun
to realize
the world of darkness
they had observed
for nine months
has now been replaced
with a world
alive
with wonders yet to be understood
Wonders
I wish I could share
but ....
You have to realize
and you will
that I am doing this for you
I can not give you
the life you deserve
I made a mistake
but I will not allow
my mistake
to deprive you
of a life
full of love
opportunities
and a future
a real future
not one filled with
Uncertainty
You will not remember me
but
I will never forget you
I do this for you
I hope
you will never have to do the same
