Chapter Ten
Cali
I was having a hard time falling asleep. All I could think about was what Jay said. He thought I was cute. He was crushing on a stranger. I hadn't just been in the living room, I was up against the door, trying to hear every word. I was shocked when Preston asked if he liked me, but I was to intrigued. I couldn't help it.
His words just kept repeating in my head. I would be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little attracted to him, but I thought it would be better if we were just friends. Just like me and Preston. But he did give me butterflies whenever he smiled at me. I had never felt like that. It was weird.
I finally fell asleep, with his words still on loop.
I got up the next morning a little before ten. I wasn't hungry so I decided to take a shower first. I took my time and just stood under the hot water for a while. I finally got out when my fingers were starting to wrinkle.
I wrapped my towel around me and opened the door. I was reading something on my phone when I heard him yell hey. Again.
I looked up and saw him looking at me. I hadn't been running so we didn't smack into each other but I did walk right into him.
"Are you serious? Again?" I screamed, raising an eyebrow. He took a step back because he knew I would hit him. And I would have if I didn't have to hold the only cover between his eyes and my naked self.
"Oh my god. I'm sorry. I didn't realize, I swear." He was trying really hard to hold back a smile. I could also tell he was having a hard time keeping eye contact with me.
"You're a terrible liar."
He laughed a little, but then smiled at me. I could feel the blush creeping up my face and I bit my lip. But then I remembered I was still standing out here in my towel.
I rolled me eyes and brushed past him. "Perv," I said under my breath as I closed my door.
"I heard that," he called after me. He was still standing outside the door and I could practically see him smirking out side the door.
"You were supposed to because it's true." I heard him laugh again. And even though he couldn't see me, I rolled my eyes.
"But I actually came up here to find you," he explained after a minute of silence.
I threw on a pair of shorts, a tank top and cowboy boots and walked out.
"Really? Becuase I think you're doing this on purpose now."
I put my hands on my hips and glared at him. The smile went away. Even though I was intimidating, his height advantage wasn't helping my cause. I hated being so much shorter then him.
"I swear I'm not. The delivery guy is here with the stuff." This time, he didn't hold back. He ran his eyes up and down my body and then finally met my eyes. And guess what I did? Well, I can tell you that I didn't slap him and call him a perv.
After my blush cleared and I released my bottom lip from my teeth, I replied.
"He couldn't have waited five more minutes?"
The smile was on his face again. I knew he was just waiting for the towel to drop. Perv.
I climbed down the ladder and saw the guy who usually delivered here, Will, standing next to his truck. He shook my hand and I helped him unload the food, medicine and other stuff we had ordered. It took a while, but I finally got everything organized. I signed for the stuff and he drove away.
I fed the horses and cleaned stalls. I walked back up to the loft and into my bedroom. But I froze when I saw him standing there. I wasn't not expecting him to still be there. And just like the normal teenage girl I was, I stood back to admire him. The shirt he was wearing stretched over his back muscles. And his back muscles were really, really sexy. Hell, everything about him was sexy. Damn him.
