The starry forest felt more inviting than ever. Ravenstar was looking wearily at Thunderclan camp. Lightningpaw watched as the cats from the previous battle arrived home. She saw Skypaw. Her sister ran through the battle patrol looking for something she would never find. Skypaw saw the tears that streaked Lionstripe's face. Skypaw ran out of camp. Lionstripe raced after her, along with Snaketail.

"Why do I feel a stronger connection to Starclan? Am...Am I dead?" asked Lightningpaw as she silently sobbed.

"No, but Starclan needs you more than ever now. Tonight, the black cat was born. The future is unclear, but you must find out you abilities before its too late,'' Ravenstar said fearfully. "Don't blame Airblaze for what is about to come. The dark forest has a stronger influence than Starclan these days," mumbled Ravenstar as he faded away.

Lightningpaw awoke. She was covered in odd smelling mixtures. She looked over to Bluesoul and Flamepaw. They were barely breathing.

Airblaze was standing next to Lightningpaw. Her face was full of disappointment and fear.

"Your the only one who has awaken," mewed Lilacleaf as she walked into the medicine cat den with Lilypaw carrying wet moss behin her.

"Is Flamepaw going to be okay?" asked Lightningpaw.

"Let's go for a walk," mewed Airblaze.

Don't blame Airblaze, Ravenstar's voice rang in Lightningpaw's head.

"Okay," mumbled the sandy furred she-cat.

Airblaze led Lightninpaw to the fresh-kill pile. There were frogs, mice, voles, and squirrels. "Here try a frog," mewed a warrior that was walking by.

"Thanks, what's your name?"

The warrior was a black she-cat with a single silver stripe. "I am Moonspirit," mewed the warrior.

Airblaze picked up a bigger frog. She used her teeth and claws to pull the slimy skin off the dead animal. "Your brother and my daughter have started their journey to Starclan," cried Airblaze.

Lightningpaw ran back to the medicine cat den. Flamepaw wasn't there. Neither was Bluesoul. Lilacleaf was staring at a small pile of flowers. "Where is my brother?" asked the scared Lightningpaw.

Lilacleaf walked over to two lumps of fur. Flamepaw and Bluesoul, lay dead.
