29. But This Heart Is Open Bloodstain on My Sleeve

Down in the little city, Avery looked back at JJ and Emmett.

    Emmett walked around the car as a group of people walked out of a bar shouting about the fire in the mountains.

    Avery dropped her head as an older lady came out of a house crying.

    Shep grabbed JJ's hand as she was shaking.

    JJ looked back at him.

    Shep smiled at her, "It will be ok. We are almost there."

    JJ nodded her head back at him as Emmett whistled over at Avery.

    Avery nodded her head as she stepped out into the street.

    "What was it?" One of the people coming out of a bar asked.

    Avery slipped into the bar as everyone was getting up and heading out to see what was going on.

    "Hey kid."

    Avery stopped and looked at the man behind the bar.

    "You lost?" He asked with a thick Italian accent.

    "I just came out of my room when I heard all the noise." Avery looked back at him. "How did you know I only speak English?"

    "You look like the group that is here from America."

    "Right."

    "See you have had enough already." He laughed back at her.

    Avery smiled, "Kinda, what hotel are they staying at?"

    "The inn up the road." He smiled back at her.

    Avery nodded as she walked out to the group as Emmett walked over to her.

    "There is too many people." Emmett said back to her.

    "There is an American college group here." Avery said back to him.

    Emmett smiled back at her, "What is your plans?"

    "They gotta have credit cards and maybe some cars."

    JJ and Shep smiled back at her.

   

    Shep walked into the inn as Emmett stood outside with the guests trying to get a feel of the situation.

    Shep turned around as someone ran into him, "I'm sorry about that."

    She smiled back at him, "No, I should have been looking where I was going."

    Shep smiled as he helped her up, "No, I was in your way."

    She laughed back at him, "Your English is really good."

    "My family is here from Texas. Did you see what is going on outside?"

    "Yea roommate woke me up."

    "It is insane, I hope whatever it was that someone is ok." Shep said back to her as JJ walked over to the random bag that had been dropped.

    She looked back at him, "I know!"

    "Oh I'm Shep by the way."

    "Lauren, Lauren Andrews."

    Shep grinned back at her, "So how about we head outside and see what is going on?"

    Lauren smiled back at him as they were out the door.

    Avery walked over to JJ as JJ had a wallet.
