I sat in my apartment, staring out the window. I held onto my mug of coffee, shaking slightly. I didn't get much sleep last night. I kept waking up, tossing and turning. And Thomas stayed up with me all night, even though he had to work early.
Suddenly there was a knock on the front door, causing me to jump slightly, spilling some of the coffee from my mug.
"Pull yourself together Caitlyn..." I said putting it down and walking to the door. I opened it and saw Ava.
"Good morning starshine," she laughed. "I'm guessing you didn't get much sleep last night..."
"None really..." I replied, stepping to the side to let her in.
"Everything is going to be fine, you know that."
"I just have this feeling... every time something bad happens I have this same feeling... it's never really been off, and that scares me..."
"We have pretty awesome brothers, they're going to take care of it."
"I know... but I don't want our lives to go back to the way they were before... it was hell..." she just looked down. "I'm sorry... you probably had it much worse..."
"No, I dont think so... at least I didnt have to run around and play some terrible game... even though I was tortured every day, I know for a fact it was worse for you all... I often heard the guards talking of what everyone was going through, and I felt so sad for you all." I looked down at the ground.
"We're going to take the rest of them down, and they're not going to be able to hurt anyone ever again..." she smiled at me.
"You should go get dressed, we shouldn't be afraid to go outside," she said.
"You're right..." I said standing up.
"Now those are words you dont hear from Caitlyn O'Brien often..." I laughed and walked back to my room, quickly getting ready for the day. I walked back out and sat next to Ava. Ever since our lives had become 'normal' she and I had become like sisters.
"So, what is it you want to do?" I asked crossing my legs.
"I dont know, maybe go out and get some lunch or tea?"
"Im not really all that hungry honestly, but tea sounds awesome..."
"Tea it is then, come on, I'm buying..." she stood up and pulled me with her.
"You go ahead, I just need to grab my jacket and scarf," I said.
"Ok, I'll go warm up the car..." she turned and headed off. I pulled on my things and then grabbed my keys unlocking the drawer to the front table. I pulled it open and lifted up the false bottom. I pulled out one of the guns Thomas and I had hidden, putting it on my ankle holster. If there was any chance of us being attacked, I wasn't going to risk it. I put the drawer back together and locked it back up, quickly heading outside. I headed over to the car and smiled at Ava as I got in.
"Ready?" She asked.
"Ready..." she smiled at me and we drove off. After we got tea, we headed to the park to just walk around for a bit. We talked and laughed, and it began getting late.
"We'd better get back, the guys will worry if they get there and we aren't home."
"They worry too much,"she laughed as we walked back to the car.
"They have good reason." She unlocked the car and we got in, but it wouldn't start. "Are you out of gas?"
"Impossible, I just filled the tank," she said.
"Well, we can just walk home, the apartments arent far, we'll make the guys look at it tomorrow yeah?"
"Ok..." we got out of the car and began walking home. The sun had almost completely set, but it was only 5 pm... suddenly the feeling came back to me that something bad was going to happen. I felt my stomach begin to churn. I quickly looked behind us, only seeing a few other people on the street. It should be a lot more packed than this... I felt my breath quicken, and I glanced at Ava... she looked nervous as well. I knew something was definitely wrong. I debated reaching for my gun, but it would be pointless if I didn't know who was after us...
"Caitlyn..." she asked, her voice shaking.
"Yeah?" I replied as we walked on, not looking behind us.
"You you get the feeling we're being..." she didn't finish.
"Followed?" I whispered. She just nodded her head slightly. "Yeah..." we turned the corner and started walking faster. As we walked across the opening to the alley, two familar shapes stepped out.
"Hey there Ava, Caity... Long time no see," the Australian voice called out. I froze in place, glancing at Ava.
"Like what we did to your car?" His partner called out. It was Michael and Ashton. They stepped into the light. We both took a step backwards.
"Going somewhere?" The female British voice called out behind us. I turned quickly and saw Kaya standing there, holding a knife. "Dont worry, we have our orders... only one of you will die tonight... we're going to make it look like a simple mugging.... pull them into the alley!" She demanded. We were grabbed from behind and dragged into the alleyway. I fought against Michael, who gripped me tightly.
"Tell me Caitlyn, what will Thomas say when his sister is murdered and you're the one to run free? Will he be thankful, or will he hate you?" Michael whispered in my ear. I kicked back, drilling him right in the nuts, causing him to keel over. I quickly grabbed my gun and pointed it at Kaya.
"Drop it!" I demanded.
"Or what?" She gave out a fake laugh. "You'll shoot me." Suddenly I felt something hit me on the back of the head and I fell to the ground, black spots began appearing infront of my sight as Kaya stepped towards Ava. I tried to move, to reach for my gun, but I couldnt. I couldn't do anything except watch. Ava struggled against Ashton, trying to break free, but she couldn't. All I heard were muffled shouts as Kaya stepped closer to her. Then everything went black.
