I sat on my bed, listening to the voicemail my parents had left me earlier. I hadn't answered any of their calls in 2 weeks now... I was just afraid that if I did, now they'd be in danger again. I sighed and shut off my phone, looking down at the covers.
"I know that look," Thomas said, coming over and sitting next to me. "What's up?" I just shrugged, sighing.
"I can't even tell my parents I'm pregnant..." I said. "If I did, they'd drop everything and come here... and I don't want to put them in danger. I just feel like history is repeating itself... and I'm terrified," I said. He sighed and put his hand on my back.
"It's going to be hard... especially after the vote... but we can do it. You were right... we're going to be fine, we're going to stop them." Suddenly there was a loud shattering from the living room. "Stay here," he said, grabbing his gun and going out slowly. I took a deep breath and stood up, following him out. I peeked out and saw Thomas and Grant standing over a pile of broken glass.
I walked out as Thomas unfolded a peice of paper, handing a rock to Grant.
"I told you to stay put."
"Yeah, since when do I listen?" I asked. "What does it say?" I asked, fiddling with my fingers. He looked down and read it outloud.
"'I hope we have an understanding, just to be clear, none of you will be hurt as long as you stay away... Love Nick...' it has a page of the dead pool... with our names crossed off." I looked through them and again noticed the one name that wasnt there...
"Why isn't Will on the list?" I asked.
"I don't know.. maybe it's just a typo?" Grant said, not seeming sure with himself.
"If you were making a very deadly list, don't you think you would check it time and time again?" I asked.
"You don't think he could be working with Nick.. do you?" Thomas asked?
"What, no way. Listen, I've spent the past 2 and a half years with Will, there's no way he would just betray us by working withthat douche bag. Especially after Nick's the one who murdered most of his family, he murdered Annika..."
"Maybe he's just on some other part of the dead pool, call and ask Harry to read through it. He wasn't originally part of the alliance anyways, so maybe he was put with the rest if his first group?" Thomas suggested, but I could see his doubt.
"Or maybe Nick wants us to turn on him for some strange reason," I said. "We just don't know for sure. But we can't lose our heads..." They just both agreed. I sighed and looked over at the shattered window, looking out across the street, seeing Daniel and Kaya, walking off into the night. "Did they have to break the window?" I asked, shivering as a gust of cold air came in.
"They have to break everything..." Grant responded.
"I'll patch it up with a plastic seal for the night," Thomas said. "You go get some rest." I just sighed and started walking back to the room.
"Hey, you okay?" Grant asked before I walked into the bedroom.
"Yeah. I'm fine. I just. I need to get some rest. I'm exhausted."
"Of course. Well, maybe tomorrow we can take your mind off of all the crazy. Give you your first ultrasound. You'll be able to see your baby." I smiled lightly and looked down.
"Yeah. Yeah, that'd be nice," I said. He smiled back.
"Get some sleep. I'll see you in the morning."
"Goodnight," I said, turning and walking into my room. I closed the door and lay back on the bed, falling asleep quickly.
