Alex's POV
"That one next!" I squealed, running ahead and pointing to a roller coaster. "Look, it goes inside! How cool is that?!" Zayn, Harry, Niall and Liam all laughed at my excitement. I impatiently waited for them to catch up, then ran over to the line of people waiting to get on the ride.
"God, Al," Zayn laughed, "Save some of that happiness for the rest of the day." I rolled my eyes at him. The line seemed to be moving extremely slow, and I stood on my toes to see how long it was.
"Ah, give her a break. It is her first time at a theme park," Harry pointed out. I barely heard him over the roar of screams that came from people on an arriving cart. We were getting closer to the front - slowly, but steadily.
I glanced around to find the name of the ride. After a quick look I saw a sign that read "Space Mountain" and frowned. Space Mountain? That was the name of the roller coaster? It didn't really make sense, being that the entire thing was indoors. The building wasn't very tall, either. Nothing like a mountain, in my opinion.
Not that the name really mattered. I saw that there were only a few people left in front of us, and found myself jumping excitedly. My heart fluttered nervously as the next cart arrived, everyone left before us fitting into it. Now we only had to wait for one more cart, then -
"Alex?" Niall said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"What?" I asked, blinking. The rest of the boys laughed and Niall's cheeks turned slightly pink. I raised an eyebrow at them, wondering what I had missed.
Liam chimed, "He asked if you wanted to sit next to him on the ride." I smiled, watching Niall blush even brighter and feeling my own face grow warm. We had only gone on a couple other rides, but so far I hadn't sat by Niall. I had been waiting for him to ask, or for us to be placed next each other by mistake, so of course I didn't deny him.
Just then a cart came to a jerky stop in front of us. I raised my eyebrows excitedly at the boys before hurrying to climb into the front seat. Niall sat down beside me, slightly less excitedly. He was still smiling brightly, though.
"Taking the front seat, Al?" Louis asked, sounding impressed from his seat next to Harry behind us. I turned and gave him a thumbs-up, at which both he and Harry laughed. Suddenly the countdown to the start of the ride began, and I spun around.
I grabbed Niall's hand, suddenly very nervous. What if I didn't like the ride? I'd never been on a roller coaster, and maybe I would be scared. Niall squeezed my hand reassuringly and asked, "You ready?" Before I could respond, the cart tipped forward and sped into a dark room. I heard myself scream, but we shortly stopped moving.
It was pitch black where we stopped. I couldn't even see Niall, but I was still tightly holding his hand. What if the ride was broken? Oh dear Lord, what if we were stuck here forever? They had to get us out!
All of a sudden there was a bright image displayed on the right side of the space we were in. There was some sort of alien thing on it, and I finally realized that there was reason for it's name. We were supposed to be in a spaceship.
Another alien looking creature appeared on the left side, and I felt my grip tighten on Niall's hand. When were we going to start moving again? There was no way of telling, not even another countdown.
"Alex, loosen-" Niall started to say, but the cart lurched forward in a sudden plummet downward.
I shrieked as we sped down. Without thinking I squeezed Niall's hand harder. He let out a grunt, but I assumed it was from the coaster. Suddenly we stopped moving downward, and were jerked to the side. I screamed again as we twisted and turned throughout the darkness. At one point I thought we might have gone upside down.
