I find that I make myself happy when I am able to make others happy. There is a reason that most religions and people in general promote peace over warfare, aside from it being easier to avoid violence than initiate it... it just makes a person feel good. And honestly, we need more good in the world and all of us must contribute for such a constant in life to be accessible to us.
