Broken Alpha (Book 1 of the Broken Wolves series)

Aliac

Aliac yawned and stretched. She walked out of the brambles and shook the moss from her fur. She looked around to see if Ice was up. She couldn’t believe she would snap at her own deputy like that. 

Ice walked out of her den and bowed her head to Aliac as she walked to sit next to her. “Im really sorry I snapped at you.” Aliac said. “Its OK. We all have been through so much this last few moons. But with a great leader like you, we will get through this.” Ice said and looked at her with such confidence that made Aliac want to howl with happiness. She had chosen a great Deputy.

“Before we keep traveling we need fresh-kill. Can you take Kludd and Eva hunting? I will have Mouse watch over Namara and Snow.” Aliac asked Ice. Ice thought it over and said “Yes. Itll be good to stretch my legs.” She bowed her head at Aliac and walked to where Kludd and Eva were sunning themselves. 

Aliac walked to the fresh-kill pile and chose a scrawny squirlle and headed towards Mouse. Mouse bowed her head and waited. “Can you watch over Namara and Snow? I told Ice to go hunting with Kludd and Eva. She needs to stretch her legs.” Aliac said dropping the squirrle at Mouses feet. Mouse answered “Yes. Stone told me to tell you that he was out hunting.” Aliac tried not to look suspicious. She said “OK. We'll wait until he gets back to leave.” Mouse nodded and went to Snow and Namara.

Aliac looked around the place they had stayed. It would have made a great camp but it was to open and no where to hide. She let out a sigh and wondered if they were ever going to get to The Rocks. 

Stone came back with a few mice. He dropped them in the fresh-kill pile and walked to Aliac. He sat down and said “I went around the river and where Pack Rock was but their were no wolves. Im sorry Aliac.” The alpha looked at her brother with reasurance and said “Its Ok. We still have a while. But I did see that you manage to bring some fresh-kill back. Thank you. Mouse was becoming suspicious. When everyone has eaten we will leave.” Stone bowed his head and walked to the fresh-kill. 

Ice came back with a squirrle and mouse. Kludd and Eva followed her with a few mice. They dropped it in the pile and took one for themselves. Ice brung a mouse for Aliac and bowed her head. She went to settle besides Namara and Snow. 

Aliac layed down and ate the mouse in a few famished bites. She stood up and shook herself. She walked to the center and said “We must keep walking. In order for the River-pack to not attack again we must get to The Rocks. We will travel quick but safely.” Ice nodded and picked up Snow. Mouse picked up Namara and followed Ice. Kludd and Eva walked side by side. Aliac and Stone walked in the front of the small pack. 

“Are you sure we will get their?” Stone asked caustiously. Aliac answered sadly “I hope we do.”
