Chapter 5 – A Strange Day

(Atif's POV)

I looked around to see where Ayaat had suddenly disappeared. I walked around and couldn't see her anywhere so I made my way near the end of the marriage hall in the corner I saw someone sitting on the floor cuddled up against the wall.

Ayaat? I questioned myself was that her.

I started walking closer to her and saw her raise her head and body off the ground. She stood up fixing her dress and straightening up. I came to a halt and just waited till she turned to see me. When she turned she was startled.

"Are you okay, tum theek ho?" I asked curiously

She placed a big smile on her lips and replied "why wouldn't I be, I just had something on my dress so had to come here and clean it up."

I looked up and down her to see what was on her dress. If she had to clean it why was she cuddled up against the wall?

She interrupted my thoughts saying "we should head to the front or others will think wrongly of us."

I just nodded and held out my hand. She kept smiling and she took my hand and we were walking back together. There were so many questions that were lurking in my mind, I needed answers but how were I to get them I thought to myself.

My eyes drifted and landed upon Ayaat's hand. I stopped as I was about to mount the stage stairs. I was looking so unusually at her hand. Are those scratches, they were deep red marks reflecting off her white skin.

I didn't hesitate in asking "what happened to your arm?"

I looked at her for a response but her eyes were fixed at the marks. She looked into his eyes and she seemed to be holding a strange expression. She didn't reply so I started walking up the stage and her with me.

We sat down and I asked again "Ayaat, how did these marks appear on your hand, they weren't there before?"

I held her arm closer to me and spoke "these look like nail marks?"

She instantly removed her hand from mine and spoke "it's nothing, I must of scratched myself, forget it!"

Something about her reply made me feel uncomfortable.

Was she lying to me or had she really scratched herself?

This girl was seriously a mystery just waiting to unfold.

The rest of the night remained quiet we didn't speak to each other. If we made eye contact would just smile at each other. It was almost time to leave since most of the guests had left. I held Ayaat's hand and walked off the stage.
