Laxus POV
"This will only hurt for a second. I promise you that it will be over before you know it."
"Heh, do your worst, kid!"
Tension and silence fills the room, then a second later...
"Ngh! Ah..." After wincing in pain for a second, I moan as a soothing effect courses through my back. Wendy didn't stab me in the back but was merely healing the fatal wound I received from the flying boulders as she lifts up my shirt. Meanwhile, Mira is heaving a sigh of relief while wiping the sweat off her forehead with her hand.
"Stay still, this is one deep stubborn wound." Wendy says.
It amazes me how a little girl such as Wendy didn't even flinch from seeing so much blood. No, of course... she had obviously seen more than enough blood on the day we infiltrated the council.
"What's wrong, kid? Is avenging your parents too much for you?" I turn my head and asks.
"Forget it. Killing you won't bring back my parents." Wendy emphasizes as she hands me back my dagger. "Though you may have killed my father, I refuse to hold grudge against you."
"..."
"There, I finish healing your wounds." Wendy pulls my shirt back down while cancelling her magic. It was amazing - not only did she heal my wounds, but she also fixed my broken ribs.
"Thanks, I feel good as new. H-hey..." After holding back her tears for so long, Wendy burst into tears yet again. I immediately surround my arms around her, lightly stroking her back to comfort her as she sobs on my chest. "Wendy, I'm sorry. I hope you can forgive me."
"Uh..." Wendy nods. I also nod at Mira to assure her that I got this.
"I'm proud of you, Laxus." Mira nods back at me. I once again feel extremely awkward especially with a little girl wailing on my chest. Not knowing what to do, I just keep on repeating, "There, there..." most of the time.
That Night...
Right after Wendy has fallen asleep, I and Mira go out from hiding and sit next to each other beside the river under the shadow of the bridge. We dip our feet in the cold flowing water, glancing and chuckling at each other whenever our stomachs are roaring from time to time from hunger.
"Laxus, tell me more about this incident two years ago. What exactly happened?."
"As you already know, the council is a major threat for the agency. Therefore Ivan had me, Freed, and Gajeel to lead a group of assassins on a mission to assassinate the council chiefs. It was a bloodbath, and both side suffered a great deal of loss."
"And?"
"We failed the mission. Before we could murder the entire chiefs, a warden specializing in earth magic solely drove us out."
"Wow, this guy must be really powerful to have wiped the floor with the entire agency..."
"Believe me. That's exactly why he was later promoted up to today as the head chief and training instructor of the council."
"I see. That explains why the rune knights were mostly skilled with earth magics."
"Anything else you wanna know? Should I perhaps interest you with how Gajeel first met and fell in love with Levy on that night?"
"Sorry, but I think I'll pass~"
We both burst into laughter.
"Mira, wait here, I'll go get us food."
