Me and Howard had skipped school school today and it's not because we're irresponsible teenagers who go to the mall every day and skip class.
No the reason this time wasn't as fun.
Caspar had gotten a terrible stomach flu and after vomiting this morning he'd decided he probably shouldn't go to school so me and Howard offered to stay with him today. It had turned out a lot less interesting then we'd thought though, considering all he did was sleep.
I sent Howard to go check if he was still alive every once in a while but most of the time we just played video games or watched movies. "So you seemed pretty excited about the Halloween dance, who are you planning to take?" I asked Howard as we boredly channel surfed.
"I don't know, I was kind of hoping of going with you guys but none of you sounded all that interested." Howard said sighing. "I'm sure they'd go if they knew how much it meant to you." I said leaning my head back on the couch and closing my eyes. I hadn't gotten all that much sleep last night.
"Yeah, I guess." Howard said sounding uncertain. I was dying inside to ask him about Angela and their little date or whatever at the mall but I knew Caspar didn't want me messing in other people's business. It was taking everything I had to not just say, 'So Angie and you huh?' But I didn't say it and I kept my mouth shut.
Howard stopped at a channel with a college basketball game and watched intently at the way they were playing. "You guys sure like basketball." I said opening my eyes to see what was happening. "Well yeah, we kind of have to like it if we play it." Howard said before seeming to think about what he'd just said. "Although Caspar gets bored with it sometimes. He says the rules can be wrong, whatever that means." He said turning back to his basketball game.
"How did you and Caspar meet?" I asked, genuinely curious at how someone like Howard would come to be friends with someone who seemed like his polar opposite. "On his first day of school here he was confused and lost so I helped him and he never forgot me." Howard said as my jealousy grew.
Even if Caspar was gay it wouldn't be for me, it would be for him. I thought, my jealousy quickly turning to sadness as I thought how happy they would be together.
"Talking about me?" Caspar said from the entry of the hall, making me and Howard jump slightly as we turned to look at him. His hair absolutely everywhere in a blue and pink mess, yes he's dyed it again don't even ask me why.
He wore a grey pair of sweatpants and a loose soccer jersey that made his small 5'7 figure seem more adorable.
He walked over and plopped himself across both me and Howard, his head resting slightly on my leg as he gazed at the game on the tv. To say the least my heart was hammering out of my chest. "That guy should've gone left, amateur move." Caspar said as Howard scoffed. "Either way the other team was going to get it." Howard said as Caspar just rolled his eyes.
"This is why I'm the point guard." Caspar said sounding rather annoyed.
"Right or left." Caspar said looking up at me as my breath hitched in my throat. "U-um I think he should've done neither." I said, actually trying to think of what I would do in that situation. Howard turned to look at me questingly as I thought about the positions the opposing team had been in.
"I would've faked right before going left but I would've discretely passed to the guy on the left who would be open by the time everyone had started in motion." I decided finally as Howard and Caspar looked at each other as I watched their faces curiously. What were they thinking?
