Jarred's POV

I was hiding behind some trees outside Dante's house. I've been keeping tabs to make sure she's okay and for now she is. I knew she was okay, but as the sun started to set I began to worry. I decided to call her phone, but it was busy. I decided to wait until nightfall when the vampires fall asleep like the dead.

I thought about the night I saved her. It was the best day of my life, but it was her worst. The hunters killed her family, but they had been looking for her, they were trying to kill her. The hunters have been on my tail ever since I can remember.

When I first moved here it seem to have been peaceful, but they found us.I knew we had to be careful, but I found my mate. I tried to stay away from her so they couldn't go after her, but I made a mistake. I checked on her constantly and one of the hunters saw me that day. To get to the Alpha, my brother, they knew they had to get to me first.

My family consists of Hector, my 24 year old brother, the Alpha. I have another brother named Mikah who's 16 and that's it. My mom and my sister were killed by the hunters so my father tired of life without her just let himself go. He's dead now so it's us three plus the pack.

We all live spread out so that if the hunters do find one of us they don't find all of us. We learned that lesson a long time ago when we all lived together in Huntington Park. We lived together as a family and a group of hunters slaughtered a lot of us.

They planned that attack to kill Kassandra so we could strike against them most likely dying, but I was smarter I planned ahead and saved her. I tried to save her family by warning her dad through the phone, but he wouldn't listen to me. He thought I was crazy. So if anyone's to blame for their death it's her father, and not me.

She won't listen to me and she thinks she's safe, but she's not. I have to warn Hector that the hunters found us, but he was away on business trying to find a way to stop the hunters. They were few in the beginning, but some of us turned rogue and the people's fear grew and this was their greatest strength because they grew in numbers.

I decided to call her, but she didn't answer. Did they kill her? Why is she not answering? I was about to burst into the house when I saw Gabriel's step brother walk into the house.

I held back. I could kill him, but then Dante would go after me probably by taking out Kassandra. I listened intently and I heard her walking down the stairs. She walked outside and I decided to make movement to the left so she wouldn't scream and run from me.

I stood in front of her so when she turned back. I scared the crap out of her I could see it in her face."Oh my god" she hissed holding her hand to her chest. "You scared the freaking shit out of me! What's wrong with you?" she asked in a bitter tone.

"Sorry. You scared me because I was trying to call you and you didn't respond." I said worry filling my every word.

"Well maybe I was asleep, ever thought of that?" she asked. I wrapped my arms around her  tightly. Wow I can't believe I never thought of that. She hugged me back and I felt happy, complete.

"I don't trust vampires at all even if they're nice. I thought you were dead" I said with pure relief.

I pulled back and brought my lips crashing down to hers. I felt her reluctance, but she soon kissed me back as we both melted in the feeling as I claimed her mouth slowly and full of passion. She pulled leaving us both breathless.

"You're 21?" she asked through breaths. I nodded pressing her forhead against mine.

"Does that bother you?" I asked, my breaths still coming out ragged.

"A bit" she whispered.

"It shouldn't" I whispered brushing some loose strands of hair behind her ear.

"Why not?" she asked curiosly.

"Because we're mates" I said smiling.

"So that gives you a right to kill my mother and my sisters" she said angrily. Kassandra pulled away, but I grabbed her hand.

"Don't do this" he pleaded. "You kissed me back" I said pulling her to me.

"Only because I can't help but feel attracted to you, bu you destroyed my family" she said sadly as tears ran down her cheek.

I pulled her in for a hug resting my head on hers. "Let me go" she said sobbing.

"I can't" I whispered.  She kicked me in my groin causing me to fall to the floor moaning in pain.

"Don't leave me again" I begged.

"Watch me" she whispered through tears. Kassandra opened the door and stepped in.

That's when I decided to sneak into her room she wasn't getting away this easily.

I stood there in my wolf form snarling at her. She looked so afraid that she trembled, but it wasn't my fault. Kassandra is my mate and I need her to be mine. If not mine then close to me at least not in these bloodsuckers house.

Kassandra closed her eyes as her body shook in fear. I'm wasn't going to hurt her, I would never, but lately it seemed like I ended up doing that a lot.

She turned to the side as more tears slid down her cheeks. She closed her eyes and I could feel her fear, and her anger radiating off of her. One wrong move and it could all be over for us. I had the urge to claim her, to mark her as mine, but she would hate me for that. So I did the only thing I knew how to do best.
