I had pretty much ate in silence, while Vic talked his mouth off about stuff I didn't care about. He just seemed so passionate about everything. He always had something to talk about, and never let an awkward moment occur. And all I did was nod, so he would know I was listening. And I really was, I just didn't have anything to input.
Eventually, Vic said that he needed to get ready for his Bible Study, and he stood up, taking my tray for me, without even asking, then he told me to follow him. He lead me down the hall and stopped, instinctively at the 4th door; I counted. He dug his hand into his front pocket before pulling out a ring full of keys. He easily picked the assigned key and unlocked the door, letting himself in and turning on the light. I peeked into the room, not knowing if I was supposed to follow him in or not.
"Please, come in." Vic said when he saw I hadn't entered. I shuffled in, feeling awkward. The room was tiny, lacking any windows with nothing to make these white walls look not so threatening. There was a long table at the back wall, covered with multiple collections of the Bible. There wasn't really anything else to the room, except all the chairs in the center that created a somewhat circle. I counted 12 chairs.
Of course I had many questions for Vic, but I wouldn't dare ask them. I just didn't like bringing unneeded attention to myself. It's better to just keep quiet and remain small. Almost insignificant 'til you're forgotten.
"Kellin..." Vic pulls me from my thoughts. He was by the books, staring at me with concern.
"Are you okay?" He asked. I was fine, of course I was. My mind just liked to trick me, and make me believe I wasn't.
"Yeah." I said, giving him a small smile to assure him that I really was.
Before we could say anymore, the sound of somebody walking in, grabbed both our attention.
"Tony, please take a seat." Vic said to the guy who had walked in with a smile. The guy with many, many tattoos for someone who looked so young. He gave a smile back, and took a seat in one of the chairs.
After that, it was like a ripple effect and more people started to arrive. I was starting to feel a little uneasy about this whole thing now. As more people started to come, I started to feel more uncomfortable and my legs started to actually shake.
"Kellin, sit down." Vic said, softly. He took a seat himself, and I was quick to take the one beside him. There was no way I was going to sit off by myself with somebody I didn't know.
Tay and Jenna ended up arriving just before we started. They walked in, hand-in-hand and took a seat across from where I was. It was kind of killing me that they weren't talking to me.
Vic started by saying greetings to everyone. He then spoke about his day, and how "wonderful" it was. I found it rather irritating how positive he was all the damn time. But then I looked at everyone here, and they were are all smiling at Vic and his words. I was different from these people.
"Okay, the first verse we will be going over is Deuteronomy 31:6." He said, and everyone with a Bible in their hands, flipped to the appropriate page. I didn't have one, so I just watched Vic as he read it over.
"Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread for them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you." He spoke. I watched him as his lips molded to allow the words to fall from them. His eyes had a certain spark to them as he read these words. I could see how much they meant to him, and how absolutely worthless they were to me.
"Okay, so who wants to tell me what this is trying to say?" He asked, looking at the group. I looked down at my hands, trying to become invisible.
"Tony." He called out and I sighed in relief. I looked over to the guy everyone was watching, and recognized him from before.
