Chapter 3
I immediately went to the Great Hall after that scene. I knew that there was something mysterious about that professor. He was an ex-Auror and he just turned twenty-one? How was that possible? He was just three years older than me. It was clearly impossible. Well, it was possible for him to become Auror at the age of twenty-one. What seemed impossible was how he became an ex-Auror.
"What are you doing here, Ms. Everheart?" the familiar voice of the headmistress said from behind me. And since I knew that I didn't have a choice, I told her what happened.
"Tell me, Ms. Everheart," she sat beside me. "What's the reason why you tried to kill your professor? I accepted you here because I know that there's a reason behind it,"
"There is," I breathed out. "But I chose not to tell Madame Maxine about it,"
"And why is that?"
"I wanted to get out of there," I admitted. It was nice talking to someone older than me about this. Why? Because I knew that she would at least try to understand. "I did want to kill the professor. They were saying bad things about my parents, like how they were such fools and they really deserved to die,"
"How did they get killed?"
"They died six years ago, I don't know who or what killed them but when I woke up, they were already dead. Their bodies were on the ground, lifeless,"
"Where did you live after that?" Professor McGonagall asked with her eyes full of concern.
"I contacted my aunt as soon as possible and I moved out of the house to live with her. She treated me like her own daughter and I was very grateful for it,"
"You know you should have told Maxine about this,"
"I wouldn't even dare," I told her honestly. "As I said, I didn't tell the headmistress because I wanted to get out of there. All of the teachers treated me like I was some sort of trash and I didn't want to tolerate them for another year. I've had enough,"
"It's already been done, Miss Everheart," Professor McGonagall stood up and started to walk. "Be sure to get back to class right after this time,"
"I will,"
"See you in my class,"
"Yeah..." she left after that. I was left alone in the Great Hall again, which I preferred. All this time, right after my parents died, I was always on my own. My aunt was a good woman, but she wasn't my mother. I didn't need her help. I distanced myself far away from them because it was the right thing to do so. I didn't want to get too attached to them like I did with my parents. Being too attached meant getting hurt horribly. I didn't want to feel the same kind of pain again.
I didn't want to and I wouldn't need to.
I was too far off for anyone to touch. Surely there wasn't a single human existing that could break my walls down.
I was already alone to begin with.
Nobody would be able to change that.
I went outside of the school because I didn't have anything to do inside the Great Hall. I saw a lake and sat on the ground leaning my back against a tree. The scenery was beautiful. We didn't have a lake like this in Beauxbatons, but if we did, it would be nice on my part, considering that I didn't like Beauxbatons at all.

Someone shook me awake from my sleep. I didn't know when I fell asleep. Maybe it was just that comfortable here. I saw Sapphire and Mable there. "Hey," Mable greeted. "We've been looking everywhere for you. It's time for Potions,"
"Thanks," I stood up and followed them.
"You didn't really need to do that, you know?" Sapphire said. "I'm already fine with Pansy,"
"No, you're not," I stated.
"Okay," she sighed. "Maybe I am not fine with Pansy. But I doubt it that she will do it again,"
"Professor McPhillips announced something whilst you weren't there,"
"Who is Professor McPhillips?" I asked. They both looked at me confusingly then I remembered. "Ah...the teacher who gave me a detention. Sorry, I forgot. What did he say?"
"He's the head of our house," Sapphire answered.
"And that means...?" since I didn't have an idea, it was needed for me to ask what they were talking about.
"What you hear is what you get," Mable said. "But if you're really wondering, he's like our leader or something,"
"Just great," I rolled my eyes. "I don't like him that much,"
"Obviously," they chorused.

"A new student, I see?" the professor eyed me as I took a step inside the room. Sapphire and Mable already went to their seats, knowing that the professor would give me one. I saw Malfoy at the corner of my eye. "Aeribelle Everheart?" and I nodded for an answer. "You would be taking your seat beside Mr. Malfoy, he will be your partner until the end of the year,"
"What?!" I complained. "Why do I need to get partnered to him?!" I pointed at the blonde who was sitting at the back staring at me.
"Because I said so, Ms. Everheart," the professor went in front of the room. "And I'm Professor Slughorn if you're wondering,"
I glared at his back before proceeding to sit beside Draco Malfoy. He looked at me with sadness lingering around his eyes. "Don't expect me to apologize for what I did to your girlfriend, Malfoy. It wouldn't happen,"
"Why would you go that far to use a dangerous curse at her?" he asked. "Verbal actions would have been better,"
"I knew what I was doing," I told him. "It's not like I care for anyone's opinion anyway, and obviously, your opinion is nothing but trash to me,"
"You remind me of me," he looked down.
"Yeah, right," I rolled my eyes. "I don't see myself as someone with a good heart like yours,"
"I wasn't like this before," he explained whilst he looked up again. "I was a foul git. A prat. I thought that everything revolved around me,"
"I don't think that everything revolves around me," I hissed. "If I can, I don't want anything to revolve around me. I want it to stop,"
"You want to die?" he asked, shocked and confused.
"If you were in my place, you would too," I whispered to myself but he heard it.
"Why?"
"Stop nosing yourself in somebody else's business, Malfoy!" I snapped. "My life is nothing of your concern as your life is nothing to mine,"
"Problem, Ms. Everheart, Mr. Malfoy?" Professor Slughorn asked. "I see the two of you are getting along very well,"
"Not when I'm alive, professor," I said. "Not when I'm alive."
