And also I am super sorry for being this late.
"Alright, I am off to my beautiful long nap. You two take your time but wake me up when you guys return with the ingredients," she said.
"Yes, ma'am," I saluted.
"Good, now go and if it gets late then do inform me beforehand," she added, patting my cheek softly before walking off.
She disappeared deeper into the house as I heard her footsteps moving towards her room. I stepped out of the house, closing the door behind me.
Matthew is already in the car, waiting for me. His excitement is coming off in waves making me a tad bit nervous in turn.
He isn't hiding his joy at all, and it is so new to me. I have never seen anyone who is this excited to spend time with me. Even the pups I used to babysit at the pack would not approach me unless they needed something.
I wonder if it could be called a date. I have never been on one before, at least not out in the open.
Wouldn't it also make our previous adventures sort of...dates too? Or is this wishful thinking?
"So, where do you wanna go?" he asked as I got in the passenger seat.
"Honestly, I did say some new places but I don't feel like walking around."
I looked out at the sky "Also, the weather isn't very pleasant either for the outdoors."
It has been strangely stormy these past few days. Thankfully, it hasn't been much except for occasional downpours and sharp winds.
"Hmm, so somewhere we can sit and relax?" he said, starting the car and slowly backing out of the driveway.
I nodded, trying to gauge my mood.
"We have visited almost all your favourite places, and if it is just sitting and talking then home isn't bad either," I replied.
"Depends on the company," he said in a suggestive soft tone. I couldn't keep the smile creeping up but tried to keep it small.
I wanted to ask what sort of company I offer, but it sounded lame to me, so I decided otherwise.
"Have you been to Grandpa's café?" I asked suddenly, as an idea popped up.
He shook his head. "No- uh... maybe once, but it was way back."
"There is this entertainment centre just around the café. Maybe we can go there. I remember Sam telling me it is popular with the young crowd," I suggested.
He nodded, probably knowing the place.
"I wonder if there is a movie theatre around that place. This new movie has been all over my social media, and I've sort of wanted to see it... that is if you're okay with it?"
I still don't know much about his likes and dislikes.
"Yeah, of course. I haven't been to the theatre in a long time, so it'll be fun and exciting," he said, taking a swift turn and bringing us to the main road, leading us to the centre of the city.
"Alright then," I said leaning my head on my hand, sticking slightly out of the window.
It is half an hour's drive to the city centre, and for the initial part, we drove in silence. I tried to soak in as much sun as possible and gather my thoughts about the man sitting beside me.
'Talk to him, idiot. Now that you two have taken a step forward, try to know him better. Don't forget that we will have to tell him about us eventually.'
'Right... I completely skipped on that.'
Gracia huffed, probably disappointed in me. But I don't know how to start! I am more of a keyboard warrior. It's easy to talk about the world and beyond when sitting miles away behind a screen.
'Ask about his hometown, his friends, his family, anything. You barely know him beyond the basic details.'
I nodded to Gracia which is...weird. 'You know, for a wolf that barely comes out, you are awfully socially aware.'
I quickly blocked my connection before he could chew me out. I could imagine him cursing me.
I turned in my seat slightly to look at him and...
God Damn, He looks ethereal.
He is driving with one hand, while his other rests on the window like mine, but the glitter was the sunlight filtering through the clouds illuminating his side profile. Like a divine being, perfectly sculpted from all angles and curves.
For a human, he has extraordinary looks.
Sensing my gaze, he looked at me for a moment, and his face bloomed into a smile. And I swear on the name of the Goddess, I had never seen something so pure and beautiful. That smile had no intentions or reasons hidden behind it; it was just pure joy and happiness he felt at that moment.
I could tell because his pulse quickened.
"What?" he asked, looking back and forth between me and the road. "Something on my face?" he straightened up, trying to look at his face in the back view mirror.
I must have been looking at him like a fool.
"Ah, nothing," I tried my best not to appear flustered. What is this? Why am I acting like a teenager?
"You sure? You were looking at me funny," he asked, seeing nothing on his face. I mean, if he had looked through my eyes, he would have seen perfection but let's not stroke his ego.
"Oh...uh... It wasn't like that. I mean, I was just thinking that... uh... I don't know much about you, besides the everyday stuff." That's a good safe, right? I could also start a conversation without looking awkward.
"Oh," he looked blank for a few seconds, blinking rapidly, probably caught off guard by my question.
Who am I kidding? It is stupid.
I can't blame him; that did sound weird. It would have been appropriate to ask if we are something more exclusive.
He chuckled, "There isn't much to tell, honestly speaking," his words came out slowly and carefully, but there was also a sense of sadness, tiny and hidden.
He peeked at me to see if I was listening before continuing.
"Starting from the beginning, I am Matthew..."
