The door opened and a doctor walked out. "Mr Merrygold?"

I jumped up and made my way straight over to the doctor who was stood outside the door. "Yes? Is she ok?" I panicked.

"Well, she has burns on the sides of her hands. We think she's been inside the room for a while -she's lucky to have survived- she's inhaled a lot of smoke so we've had to put her on oxygen and something to help her to breathe. Also, because she's breathed in so much smoke, she's in a coma." he finshed.

Coma? What? "What do you mean she's in a coma? How long will she be in one? Will she wake up?" All these questions were flooding my mind.

"Because of how much smoke she's inhaled, she's been put into a coma. We aren't sure how long she'll be in one, she could wake up today, tomorrow, in a week, a month. I don't think she'll be in one for too long, she was lucky to have got out whilst she did. We're confident she'll wake up but when she does, that's a different matter." he said, smiling politely.

"Ok. Thank you doctor. Can I go see her?" I asked.

"Sure." he smiled before walking off.

"You just go by yourself." Alexis' mum smiled.

"Are you sure? Do you not want to go first?" I asked.

"No, we'll go after." she smiled, nodding towards the door.

I took Jayden with me as I went into Alexis' hospital room. I sat down in the chair beside her bed and took her hand in mine. I balanced Jayden in my arms as I leant over and planted a kiss on her head.

"I've missed you so much." I whispered. "And Jayden has too." I smiled.

I talked to her for a while longer, telling her what she'd missed, etc. I then left whilst her parents stayed with her.

“You should go home for the night with Jayden.” my mum smiled, putting a hand on my shoulder.

“I don’t want to leave her though.”

“She’s in good hands. Go home and get a good sleep with Jayden. You can come back in the morning.”

“But..”

“No buts, go home.” she said pushing me towards the exit.

“Can I at least say goodnight to her?” I asked.

“Fine, wait until her parents are out though.” she smiled at me before walking over to dad.

Once her parents came out after seeing her for the second time and made their journey home, I walked back into the room.

“I have to go now baby, but I’ll be back as early as I can tomorrow,” I leant forward and kissed her cheek then leant back. “I love you and so does Jayden.”

I got up and left the room, Jayden still in my arms. I don’t know why but I couldn’t bring myself to put him down. When I came out of the room, my parents were already gone. They’d saw her after her parents had been in. I put Jayden into his car seat which I’d moved to the passenger seat and made the journey home. By the time I got there, Jayden was fast asleep in his car seat, all wrapped up in his blanket. Carefully as I could, I lifted him up trying to make sure not to wake him and carried him straight to his cot. Then I got showered and changed and got into bed. I couldn’t fall asleep, I didn’t like the idea of leaving Alexis alone in the hospital. I knew she was in safe hands and she was safe but still. I missed her like crazy. Plus, it wasn’t like Ben had been caught, they couldn’t find him after the firemen had got Alexis from the fire, but he was probably close by. Hopefully though, the police would catch him. The sooner she got home the better.
