You find out new things about Dean all the time, but not all are good qualities.

His hands are rough, like sandpaper. That's the first thing you notice about Dean. When you meet him, it's hard to see the broken man inside, playing the part of the hero because it's the only way he can live with himself. But you can feel his rough hands on your arms as he pulls you up and carries you in his arms. It doesn't matter what monster did this, he will kill it. He is a killer.

His smile is stunning. That's how Dean convinces you to stay. You don't know that the same smile has worked on countless other girls at a numerous amount of bars. You don't know that his smile is the only way to hide the darkness that manifests deep inside of him. The darkness that comes to the surface when someone digs too deep, gets too close. That's why there are so many walls around him. His smile is the facade of a doorway.

He runs like the wind. Whether it be towards the monster or away, you know that he always makes sure you're right behind him. You are only starting to realize that he runs away from all of his problems. Or worse, they run away from him. You can see the abandonment in his eyes, and you know how lonely and worthless he feels, even at his best. It is difficult to watch him struggle, but at least when he runs, he runs fast.

His lips are soft and warm. Dean's been with countless other women, but you know that the way he's kissing you is on a much more personal level. This is meant for you only. What you don't know is that this kiss just sealed the deal. You've kicked down all the walls that he put up to keep his darkness in, and now the only thing left standing is the chain link fence in the deepest part of him. It's only a matter of time before that crashes down too. Right now, you pay no attention to that, too caught up in the way you feel for him to notice anything else. He has become your weakness, your blind spot.

His embrace is warm. He feels like a warm blanket when you snuggle into his arms during the night. It distracts you from the coldness inside. Your own warmth is starting to melt the ice around his heart, but it'll take some time. Dean is worried just how quickly it will freeze again when you're gone. These things always happen to him, leaving him more of a mess each time.

His voice is low and raggedy. You've heard him speak that way before, but it's never been pointed in your direction. Dean can see the pain in your eyes, but it doesn't matter because he can't control himself. His darkness has broken through the surface and it feeds off of your misery.
Tears stream down your face in a mixture of anger and fright. You yell right back, battling the darkness for Dean, trying to fend it off. His voice is much stronger than yours. You lose the battle and you lose Dean.

Dean's eyes are beautiful. You've noticed the subtle greenness of them before, but the tears make them so much clearer. His darkness is gone now, and you realize that the darkness was the final wall. Underneath that is sadness and love, mixed together. This is the truest form of Dean. He only shows himself at the last possible second, but somehow he's perfect. A broken man with a pure heart.

You sigh as the numbness spreads from the knife wound in your stomach. Dean wraps you up in his strong arms and you feel his warmth as you begin to get colder. He had run to you faster than you had ever seen, but you wouldn't make it through the ride to the hospital. Instead you lay in his arms on the hard floor of the parking garage, the monster that you had fought only a few yards away. The pads of Dean's rough fingertips are stroking your cheek gently.

You look up to him and he smiles, but this time he is no longer able to hold back his pain.

"I love you, Dean. I always will. Forget the fights we had, forget the stuff I said. Just remember that I love you."

He nods as more tears flow. You feel him kiss you one last time. It's the kiss that's only meant for your lips.

"You're strong Dean. You're brave and noble and loyal. You can get past this, I know it. Don't let it back in. Don't let the darkness back in. I love you."

Those last words come off your lips in a whisper. You close your eyes gently, as if falling asleep. Instead of seeing a white light, darkness is all around you. It's Dean's darkness. A smile forms on your dying face as you grab it and take it with you, making sure it never goes back to the man you love.

"I love you too," He whispers back. It's too late for you to hear him, but he knows that you already knew. You knew everything.
