It had just passed midnight and Phil had insisted on accompanying Dan back to his apartment, which Dan thought was sweet and almost made their time together feel like a date. After Phil's reaction to Dan's scratch earlier in the library Phil had backtracked and become the friendly, easy-going Phil he had been in the coffee shop. He realised that Dan seemed uneasy about his concern for something most people would consider trivial, which saddened him, never wanting to see Dan pull away with a hint of discomfort towards him again. Didn't Dan understand that he was too pure and undeserving of even the slightest pain? No, Phil had to keep that to himself.

"I actually moved down South about ten years ago, just after I finished school. Pretty much as soon as it was legal for me to be living alone I took the chance. That's when I met Tommy, he taught me everything I know about tattoos and gave me my first job in his tattoo parlour." Phil said.

"Oh, I thought your accent didn't sound too local," Dan replied. He wondered why Phil had been so desperate to leave but thought it was probably best to not ask that tonight. "So you want to be a professional tattoo artist then?"
"Dan, I am a professional tattoo artist," Phil chuckled. "I did most of this sleeve myself," Phil said, rolling up the left sleeve of his dark jacket. Dan's eyes widened in awe at the sight of the twirling intricate designs inked onto Phil's pale skin.

"Wow, Phil you're seriously talented." Dan said in amazement. He began to stretch out a hand to touch Phil's arm and trace the decoration but stopped himself.

Phil noticed Dan's movement and tilted his head to the side in question, but seeing Dan flush with embarrassment pulled on his heartstrings so he decided not to bring it up.

"So, teaching," Phil said. "That sounds fun." The smile returned to Dan's lips and he started spilling out his love for the occupation.

They had reached Dan's apartment now, and Phil had even walked him up the stone steps leading to his front door.

"I had fun tonight, maybe I'll see you again sometime?" Dan asked, trying to keep the pleading tone out of his voice.

"I did too, I'll give you a ring." Phil said, a sad smile lifting the corners of his soft lips. He turned to head home, leaving Dan at his apartment door.

It was an awkward situation, Dan didn't know if Phil liked him in a romantic way, but he thought it was possible. He placed his hand on Phil's shoulder and Phil stopped and spun on his heel to face Dan, with a hesitant but hopeful expression on his face. It was now or never, Dan thought. He stepped forward, raising his hand to gently rest under Phil's jaw, his thumb on Phil's cheek, and kissed him lightly on his soft lips. Phil didn't react at first, and Dan pulled away, feeling embarrassed and blushing deeply. He started to apologise, but Phil's own lips interrupted Dan's mid sentence. He had pushed his lips back onto Dan's, giving Dan a sweeter kiss than the last. Phil's piercings didn't get in the way nearly as much as Dan thought they might.

I know this was a short chapter but it won't be long before the next update so... Plus I just wanted the first kiss to be it's own chapter ^.^
