{Albus}

'Gryffindor or Slytherin,' The hat whispers, 'your choice.'

'Gryffindor!' I think immediately, 'Gryffindor, Gryffindor, Gryffindor!'

'Well, since you're so sure, you are a GRYFFINDOR!' The hat yells the last word to the whole hall.

I pull the hat off my head, grinning and running down to the Gryffindor table, and sliding in between James and his friend Nick Fox, and opposite my cousin, Fred.

{Rose}

'GRYFFINDOR!' The hat yells, Albus's pulls the hat off his head, grinning from ear to ear and runs down to the Gryffindor table to sit next to James.

The line of first years begins to get shorter and shorter, as I watch Al and think, what if Al and I AREN'T in the same house.

Al and I have been bestfriends for as long as I can remember. I'm exactly two weeks older then Al, so we've had a lot of shared birthday parties.

I think about Fred and Roxanne, they're in different houses and are still as close as they were before Hogwarts.

But then there's Victoire and Dom, they're both in different houses and they're no where near as close as they used to be.

The hairs on the back of my neck stand up, as though someone's watching me. I spin around and see Malfoy staring straight at me. A shiver runs down my spin, but I glare straight back at him, and he soon looks away.

'Verrity, Lucinda!'

'GRYFFINDOR!'

'Weasley, Rose!'

My eyes widen and my heart begins to bang loudly against my rib cage, as though trying to escape as I walk up to the stool and pull the hat over my head.

'Ahhh, another Weasley, hey,' the hat mutters.

I bite my lip and think over and over again, 'Gryffindor, Gryffindor.'

'Oh, you want to be in Gryffindor, but no! Your mind! Oh you have one of the most amazing minds Hogwarts will ever see!' The hat whispers.

'I do?!?' I think, astonished.

'Yes! But, oh! You are ever so brave and loyal, it may be hidden, but, you are very brave, little Weasley.'

'Gryffindor, Gryffindor!' I think again.

'Gryffindor? Are you sure? You might not reach your full potential, you might not be the person the wizarding world needs you to be.' The hat taunts

I frown, 'what do you mean?'

'Ahh, but I cannot tell you, but I think Ravenclaw is where you belong.'

'Really?' I think.

'No, I'm really not sure,' the hat says.

I sit there on the stool with the hat on my head for 5 minutes, the hat keeps changing its mind about where to put me.

It's been about 6 minutes when the hat suddenly yells to the whole hall, 'GRYFFINDOR!!!'

I pull the hat off my head, and run down to the table, beaming.

I sit down next to Al and hug him, my eyes sparkling.

'I'm so glad we're in the same house!' I say.

'Same! And I'm glad that...' Al's voice trails away, glancing towards the Slytherin table.

'That Malfoy isn't in Gryffindor?' I say my eye brows raised.

Albus nods.

'Well obviously he wasn't going to be in Gryffindor, you heard him.' I point out.

'Yeah, I know,' Albus says.

'Prefects can you please lead the first years to your house dormitories!' McGonnagal yells as everyone rushes out of the Great Hall.

Albus and I follow the other Gryffindor first years out if the hall, and into the Entrance Hall. We are about to walk up the marble steps when I hear someone call my name.

'Weasley! Rose Weasley!' It's Neville, or should I say Professor Longbottom. It's weird to hear him call me Weasley, but u guess in school he has to treat me like anyone else.

I smile, until I spot who Neville's standing with, McGonnagal, Slughorn and Malfoy.

I wave goodbye to Al, and tell him I'll meet him in the Common Room later.

I walk down the stairs, trying not to look at Neville. He looks extremely disappointed.

'Miss Weasley,' McGonnagal says briskly as I reach her, 'please follow me into here, you to Mr Malfoy.' McGonnagal leads us into an office off the Entrance Hall.

I immediately spot a photo of the Longbottom twins, Alice and Millie, this must be Neville's office.

McGonnagal sits down in the desk chair, Neville and Slughorn on standing on either side of her.

Malfoy and I stand awkwardly on the other side of the desk.

'Malfoy, Weasley! Never ever have i heard if such appalling behaviour, and on the first day!' McGonnagal yells, her nostrils flaring, she takes a deep breath and continues in a calmer voice, 'We received a letter from the train driver about what happened on the train, do you have anything to say for yourselves?'

'He called my mother a... a mudblood!' I yell pointing at Malfoy.

'She called my father a death eater!' Yells Malfoy.

'No one cares who called who's parents what, we DO NOT tolerate physical violence at school.' Slughorn says sternly.

'I agree completely with Professor Slughorn. You shall both receive two weeks worth of detention.' McGonnagal says glaring at us.

'And we will be writing to your parents,' Neville says sternly.

I look down at my highly polished black shoes, two weeks of detention, I think, and letters to my parents.

'Your heads of houses will lead you to your Common Room,' McGonnagal says, getting up and leaving.

The walk up to the Common Room is extremely awkward, Neville doesn't look at me once.
