The next few days past quickly, and even though we haven't been given that much homework this week, I can tell that all of the first years are happy it's Friday.
I sit and listen as our Transfiguration teacher, Professor Hyde drones on and on about how much Rose's matchstick, looks like a needle. Rose beams, turning bright pink.
Sam and I exchange glances, rolling our eyes.
The bell goes and everyone stands up, grabbing their stuff, ready to leave.
"Wait, WAIT!" Calls Hyde.
Everyone stops and turns around.
"I want you all to practice the theory, and I want you to write exactly 10 sentences on what you have learnt so far." Says Hyde.
"That's not to much homework then, but I guess it's our first so the-" Rose begins, but I cut her off, before she can get any deeper into the homework talk, "Me and Rosie are going down to Hagrid's for tea, wanna come?"
"No, sorry, I should get started on my homework." Sam says.
"Oh, ok," I say, feeling a little hurt.
"Bye," Sam says, heading off to the common room with the other first year Gryffindor boys, Mark Mcmallian, Dennis Huges and Chris Finnigan.
We walk out to the grounds, chatting happily about the past week.
"My favourite subject so far is defiantly potions"' I say, "It's so easy."
And it's true, yesterday we had double potions with the Slytherins, and we made the cure for boils. It was super easy, and I was the first to finish with the proper potion. Slughorn kept going on and on about how I must have inherited my dad and grandma's talent, though I'm pretty sure dad said he was rubbish at potions.
"Well, I can't choose, but I love Transfiguration, turning something into something else, it's fascinating." Rose says happily, as we approach Hagrid's hut.
"Hagrid!" Rose yells suddenly, running down past the hut, and into the pumpkin patch.
"Oh, 'ello there Rosie!" Hagrid's says, pulling Rose into a bone-crushing hug.
I run down after Rose, "Hi Hagrid," I say grinning.
"Hey Al," Hagrid says, letting go of Rose, and hugging me.
He lets go, and I step back, wincing slightly, just as Rose gets bowled over by a streak of grey.
"Nobert! Nobert!" Hagrid yells, pulling the boar-hound puppy off Rose.
Rose stands up, wiping slobbering off her robes, looking disgusted.
"Hello Nobert!" I say, patting him.
"Nobert?" Rose says, "Isn't that the name of that dragon you bought in Mum and Dad's first year?"
"Yeah, though she turned out to be a girl, so they call 'er Notberta now." Hagrid says sadly.
"We met her, didn't we Al?" Rose says.
"Er, we did?"
"Yes, remember when we all went to Romania?"
"Oh yeah! She was pretty vicious Hagrid," I say, grinning.
"Yeah, well..." Hagrid trails off, unable to think of what to say, "Come inside for a cup o' tea."
We walk inside, and Rose and I sit down in one of the massive chairs, around Hagrid's massive circular table.
"So, how long have you had Norbert?" I ask.
"Erm, I got 'im 'bout 2 weeks ago. You know, 'cause I was missin' Fang so much," Hagrid says, as he makes the tea.
Norbert comes up and puts his head in my lap.
"So, how's yer first week bin?" Hagrid asks, sitting down and passing us a bucket sized mug full of hot tea.
"Oh it's been wonderful," Rose says before explaining every lesson we've had so far in microscopic detail.
I tune out, stroking Norbert absentmindedly.
"I hear yer gotta detention already," Hagrid says.
I look up and Rose, who's ears have gone slightly pink.
"It's all bloody Malfoy's fault!" Rose says angrily, sloshing her tea everywhere.
"Oh, I dunno, he seems pretty nice," Hagrid says absentmindedly.
Rose chokes on her tea.
I thump her on her back.
"Ow! Get off!" She says, hitting me.
I roll my eyes as Rose turns back to Hagrid, "What do you mean, 'he seems pretty nice'?! He hasn't been here, has he? He's a Malfoy!" Rose rants angrily.
"Rosie, yer can't be so prej-" Hagrid begins, but Rose cuts him off, "ME?! PREJUDICE! He's the prejudiced one Hagrid! Did he tell you what he called my mum?!"
"Yeah, he did. And he also said that he was very sorry, and he wish he could take it back," Hagrid says seriously.
Rose rolls her eyes.
"He also told me that yer being a bit mean to him at those detentions of yours. It's a bit hard for him at the mo, ya know, comin' to Hogwarts an' all, and everyone hatin' him, because of his dad," Hagrid says sadly.
Rose glares at him, and Hagrid sighs and sips his tea. No one says anything, leaving an awkward silence to fill the room.
"Um, any new creatures in the forest Hagrid?" I finally say.
Hagrid seizes the topic, and we spend the next half an hour talking about all the animals in the forest, but Rose obtains a stony silence through out the rest of the visit, and as we walk back up to the common room, she has her serious-thinking face on.
It's only when we get to the Fat Lady does she finally speak, "Do you think he meant it?" She asks quietly.
"Meant what?"
"Meant to call mum a you-know-what, or do you think he was just angry?" Rose says.
I sigh, "I don't know Rosie, I don't think he meant it," I say.
"Are you going to stand there all day, or are you going to tell me the password?!" The Fat Lady shrieks.
