{Scorpius}
I lie on my bed reading a novel; Boo is lying on my chest, purring loudly.
Grandfather has taken Scarlett out for the day again,Grandmother is having one of her legendary naps and Mother is at work, so it's just me and Father.
I have barely talked to Father all summer holidays, after I found out information about what he had actually done during Wizarding War.
I don't want to be stuck in this cold house, I want to be with my two best friends in the world, but sadly we have to keep our friendship a secret from our parents, so we've barely written, let alone seen each other.
There is a knock on the door and I put my book down and sit up; Boo jumps off my chest and runs and jumps up onto his favourite spot, the window sill.
"Scorpius?" My father calls hesitantly from outside my door.
"Yes," I say curtly.
"Can I come in?" He doesn't wait for an answer though, and just opens the door and walks in.
"I didn't say yes," I mutter; father pretends not to hear.
He sits on the end of my bed and looks at me; I can feel Boo watching both of us from the window sill.
"I want to know what you heard about our family at Hogwarts," Father says slowly, as though he had practiced saying this.
"That we're assholes, that you and Grandfather are cowardly barstards," I say coldly.
Father breathes in, closing his eyes.
"You asked," I say (slightly sassily).
"Son, I want you to know how much I regret everything I did, and so does your Grandfather. We were scared; He would've killed all of us," Father says.
"Other people were scared, they still did the right thing," my tone is still cold and unforgiving.
Father puts his head in his hand, and when he speaks his voice shakes slightly, "When I first joined I did it to impress mother and father, and to avenge my father too. The Dark Lord set me a task, and I had to do it, otherwise he would kill my mother, and my father and me. I was terrified Scorpius; I did so many things I am ashamed of; that still haunt me if they had gone horribly wrong," father isn't looking at me, but at the ground, his voice full of remorse and shame, "I didn't complete the task, somebody else did. But from that moment on The Dark Lord had our whole family in the palm of his hand, he made it known that if we didn't do what he wanted, he would flick us all off."
Silence rings through the air after that, neither of us speaking; my father lost in his thoughts; me, lost for words.
"It was wrong, everything we did was wrong, son, don't make the mistakes I made." And with that he stands up and leaves.
I lie back down on the bed, not knowing what to think.
•••
I don't leave my room until mother comes home. When I do venture downstairs I go back to being the chatty son I was before Hogwarts; luckily everyone has enough sense not to ask what happened.
Grandfather and Scarlett return just in time for dinner, but Scarlett says she's feeling sick, and goes up to her room.
At dinner I actually interact with my family, and it's not to bad.
After dinner, I go visit Scarlett in her room and ask her how she's feeling; she says that she must if eaten something bad, and and that she needs rest, but I don't know, something didn't see right.
As I lie in bed, reading by candle light, Boo curled up next to me, when I hear a tap on the window. I look up to see Merlin, James Potter's owl, which Al uses to write sometimes, since using one of our family owls is too dangerous.
I rush over to Merlin and let him in, untying the scroll from around his ankle, and start to read.
'Scorp,
Hi! How are you?
Anyway, Rose was in a bit of an accident today, and is now in St. Mungos, but don't worry she's alright. She'll be out by then end if the week.
Don't come and visit, the whole family will be there until she's released.
Just thought you should know what happened.
Anyway, hope your holidays are good,
Albus'
I sit down on the bed, and turn the letter over, hoping for some more details.
What sort of letter was this, it was the most infuriating thing ever written.
"Merlin Al," I mutter.
I grab a quill and quickly write in the back of the parchment, 'DETAILS?!' tie it to Merlin's leg, and send him back to Al.
Then I collapse on my bed.
It's been one hell of a day.
