*Grocery Store Mayhem and It's not even Black Friday*
I reach into my backpack and pull out a t-shirt. I forgot my weapon in the chariot! And so did Jessica and Nicholas. We must be the dumbest demigods ever. Our first battle and we forgot our weapons.
The look of hopelessness covered over Jessica and Nick's face. The three cheerleaders were closing in on us. The look of pleasure was on Vivian's face. The kind of pleasure that you feel when you see your enemy about to get shred to pieces.
"What's the matter Nicholas Williams? Don't I look pretty?" Vivian smiled wickedly. She fluttered her fake eyelashes.
"Yeah. Pretty horrifying." Nick gagged.
Vivian's wicked smile turned into a frown."Get them." She commanded her two other buddies.
"Nick distract them!" I yelled. He nodded and pulled out smoke bombs from his back pack. The cheerleaders coughed and gagged on the smoke. The smoke had risen to the fire detectors and an alarm rang throughout the whole store. Costumers and employees panicked and left the store as quickly as they could. Wow, grocery store mayhem and it's not even Black friday. They even took their groceries without paying for them. Carol ran past the freaky cheerleaders. For an old man he sure can run fast. The fire detectors began to sprinkle water from the ceilings.
Nicholas grabbed Jessica's and my arm and ran with blinding speed. Snaking in and out of the isles. We ended up in isle 14, toiletries and paper towels filled every shelf. He knocked one pack of toilet paper down and jumped inside. Jessica and I also jumped in the hollow 'fortress' of toilet paper rolls.
"We cant just hide here!" I exclaim. "They'll find us in any minute!"
As if no one heard me freaking out, Nick spoke to Jessica. "What happened out there? Why didn't you use your powers to stop them?" He spoke softly, calmness laced with his words.
After a long minute Jessica finally spoke. "Ever since I woke up in the forest..." her words faltered. "I....My powers won't work. I can't read your minds. I can't control anyone. I'm...a....failure." She curls up into a ball. She rested her head in her arms. I could hear her cry, it almost matched the sound of the water sprinkling onto the tile.
I give her a reassuring hug. "You are not a failure. You are our friend and we love you no matter what happens. With no powers or with, you are still Jessica daughter of Aphrodite."
Jessica looks up at me then at Nick. Who was just sitting there watching us. "Thanks Autumn." she smiled and wiped her tears off of her flawless cheekbones.
"What are those things anyway?" I ask.
"Those are Empousai, daughters of the goddess Hecate. They feast on the blood of men or women they seduce. They can also shape shift into any form they want to be." Jessica explained to me.
"So they are like Greek mythology vampires?" I ask again.
"Kind of, and I know how to get rid of them." Jessica replied.
"You do?" Nick questioned.
"I may be the daughter of Aphrodite, but that doesn't mean I'm not smart. Brains before beauty." She replied. "Nick keep more smoke bombs ready." Nick nodded in response. The Jessica turned to me. "You have to go the the hair products isle and get as many hair spray cans as you can."
