When Words Fail

Chapter 17

A month has passed since I met Toni, Luke and the others. A month with them?

A total disaster.

I found out that my roommate, Riz, has an ultimate crush on Luke and Ynna was so in love with Jake. When they saw me being surrounded by utterly gorgeous but annoying minions of Hades, they immediately knelt in front of me and begged that I introduce them to each other.

Being the typical me, I did not.

"Get up and introduce your lazy asses to those monkeys yourselves." I told them.

Unfortunately, these girls hopelessly had fallen squarely in their butt to the ground with Luke and Jake.

One night when I was so close to sleeping and the lights were already off, Riz suddenly appeared next to my ear (I was lying in my upper bunk) and whispered, "I see dead bodies" in an eerie tone which made me sit straight up.

I haven't slept until two in the morning.

There was this time when I woke up and asked them who's going to take a bath first. Riz, Anna and Ryne (the roommate who we met a week after the first day of class) answered I should go first. Ynna was tucked under her blankets so I didn't bother asking her. At first I was relieved since I still need to do a homework which I clearly cannot do with a sleepy head and taking a bath will eventually wake me up. I entered the bathroom with dreamily half closed eyes and opened the light. I took off my shirt and when I was about to take off my pants the shower curtain suddenly opened and a zombie --- Ynna --- burst out. I, which was still half asleep, gave an ear-piercing scream that I bet woke up the whole dormitory --- hell with that, I bet I woke up the whole campus including the pests and the animals that are in it.

The next time I used the bathroom, I made sure no one was hiding behind the shower curtain. When I stepped inside the shower closed the shower curtain, two enormous centipede was clinging into it.

I was wondering how come the dormitory dean haven't kicked me out yet because for the second time, I let out my famous eardrum breaking scream.

I hate freakin' centipedes. They disgust me big time with those tiny hundred pairs of feet which I feel crawling in my skin whenever I see one. My hands went for the nearest weapon I could use to kill them, which turned out to be soap. I threw it on them and they fell --- I let out another scream --- to the bathroom tiles and I felt one crawling into my back which turned out to be just paranoia so I turned back to the real ones on the floor and poured any chemical I see in the bathroom. Chemicals kill insects, right? Unfortunately, the only chemicals I found was shampoo, conditioner and liquid bath soap. I poured it at them with real disgust and I just wished they would die and rot in he--. Okay, I was brutal. It turned out they were just toys.

When I finished taking a bath, I found out my room mates rolling on the floor, laughing. Rotfl!

"Who put those freakin' centipedes?" I snapped.

In split second they stood up and stopped laughing. Riz pointed Ryne who pointed Ynna who pointed Anna who pointed Riz back.

I acted like a cold bitch and I felt them exchange guilty gazes as I made my way towards my phone that was safely tucked in my bed. I reached for it and pretended to dial someone.

"Hello, Toni! Hi!" I acted cheerful. "Are you with your friends?"

I felt Riz and Ynna stiffen.

"Yeah? Oh. Cool. Can you give the phone to Luke?" Riz' jaw dropped.

"Luke! Hey buddy. Um, I just want to tell you something." I paused, pretending that someone was speaking on the other line, "I have this roommate who's head over heels on you. I just found out she has this shirt that she wears under all her clothes that says, 'Mrs. Luke' enveloped in a heart. I won't tell you who she is, but be careful. Okay?"

Riz gasped for air.

"Can you give the phone to Jake?" a pause, "Hey man. Do you remember the girl that I mentioned yesterday? Yes, yes. My roommate. Don't be grossed out, okay? I heard her telling my other roommates that she saved this Kleenex that you used and is going to perform a ritual on it so you could like her back."

Ynna literally dropped on the floor.

"Don't be harsh on her when you see her, okay? She's my roommate after all. See you later." I hung up.

Riz was leaning over the wall with her hands clamped shut into her mouth while Ynna was frozen on the floor.

"Now, now, I mentioned you guys to them. Happy?" I smirked. Devilishly.

Ynna was on the verge of crying.

"I hate you." Riz muttered under her breath.

"Oh, I hate you more." I said.

I was a bitch in many people's eyes, yes, because this is how I play.

When I couldn't hold my laughter back anymore, I burst out and found myself rolling on the floor.

I saw Ynna and Riz stood up and reached for my phone and I laughed even harder when I saw their faces the time they realized I dialed no one. They looked like they've just got out of a terrible parent-daughter talk about getting caught stealing cookies. They tickled me and I was hopelessly laughing on the floor.

Yes, you read that right.

I was laughing.

For the first time in years.
